I was wondering if the installer that GOG uses for the games works in Windows 98 SE. Regardless of whether or not DOSBox works of course.
I've got an old mid-range P3 system with a Riva TNT video card I'm thinking of building up specifically FOR older games to play without DOSBox. Yeah, it's great for modern systems, but my "modern" system that I'm on most of the time is a netbook. And there's also the games that DOSBox doesn't like very much like Duke Nukem 3D.
I'm just wondering if the installer will work directly with it, or if I would have to install the games on the netbook and transfer them over to the "old gaming" PC.
Thanks!!

One easy way of finding out if the installer works would be to download one of the free games. The DOS games should be able to run natively. Many adventure games on GOG use ScummVM rather than DOSBox so you can't get at the original files, and I don't know if ScummVM will work on 98SE.
The installer won't work, but you could probably copy the files over when the game has first been installed on a newer OS.
Lure of the Temptress runs fine when copied this way (that is, in my Win98 virtual machine, so performance may of course differ between my Athlon II X2 250 and your Pentium 3).

You should be able to transfer the files of DOSboxed games across just fine after you've installed them on the netbook. As for Windows games you won't have such an easy time as many rely on registry entries.
