I finished The Witcher Enhanced Edition last week, and it was recently re-installed. My saves *are* in the default location of \My Documents\The Witcher\saves and I do have many saves for the Ice Plains and a single save for Order of the Flaming Rose at the end. But I'm still getting the "Witcher 1 Saves Unavailable". Is there a more in-depth explanation of how to combat this issue?

UPDATE: I'm on Windows XP SP3

IIRC, Vista / Win 7 have been known to move the default save location depending on whether you have the "Run this program as an administrator" checked / not checked on the game shortcut compatibility tab.

Try placing a copy of the saves here -

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\The Witcher\saves

I should have mentioned I was on XP SP3. I don't have a comparable path to the one you mention above. But I did find some files at C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\The Witcher so I copied \saves to this folder, but it didn't help. Thanks for the assist... it may help someone else (or me if I upgrade to Win 7!)

It is odd that TW 2 doesn't detect TW 1 saves - TW 1 is still installed yes? [you re-installed it I see from your first post, but I could be understanding wrong].

The folder in Application Data only contains logs and temporary files so it isn't needed.

I am kind of at a loss as to what The Witcher 2 may be looking for if it cannot find your saves - unless it is like Mass Effect 2 where you have to tell the game/config app to copy the saves to a special folder - is there anything in the manual that talks about importing TW1 data?

I have the same setup myself. W2 did import my W1 save so . . . checked my path for W1 saves and it is as follows . . .

[drive letter]:\Documents and Settings\[username]\My Documents\The Witcher\Saves

I would also post in the W2 forum and open a help ticket with GOG support. My install did find and import the save but I can see no benefit in doing so at the moment . . . =)

FOUND THE SOLUTION!

Jump to this thread http://www.gog.com/en/forum/the_witcher_2/witcher_save_games/page3 and read the post by Yakkuz. It involves downloading the Witcher save editor (be sure to get the right one for your version... original or Enhanced...) and also requires that you find someone who has uploaded a savegame that is known to import properly in The Witcher 2. There is one uploaded by Corylea in that same thread.

I found the Witcher Editor here... http://sites.google.com/site/ronsworkspace/GameUtilities/witcher

The problem has nothing to do with folders, or folder names (well provided you have your saves in the right place). The problem is... there is a quest called "Ashes of Vizima" that sometimes does not get "Completed" and is stuck in the "Started" phase. Once you get that quest moved to the "Completed" phase, The Witcher 2 will recognize it!

I just took my very last save, in the Order of the Flaming Rose, and "patched" it to fix the Ashes quest... and now TW2 recognizes it just fine! Big thanks to Yakkuz and Corylea for pointing the way!

UPDATE: would you believe... I can't mark my own reply as the "solution" to a post? So I marked "Stuff"'s thread as the solution, and hope you'll read this one for mo' info! :)
