I just made an account and i am looking for Wizardry 8 , is it in the catalog , because i was not able to find it?
I sure hope Wizardry 8 will appear on GOG.
But, as it stands, the game is not on GOG as they do not have the publisher signed on to sell it.
Until that happens, GOG will remain Wizardry-less.
Magic 8-ball says "Maybe".
I hope so...
Who owns the Wizardry-IP anyway?
this is why I made my thread regarding my questions regarding the wishlist...sigh...

Also: Welcome to the forums and community ScreamShield
Maybe the same Sirtech that has developed and published the series.

Sir-Tech sold the rights to IPM in Japan a number of years ago.
If Wiz 8 ever made it to GOG, not only would it be an insta-buy (even though I have it on CD), I would immediately run a stupid game giveaway contest to award 10 free copies to fellow GOG members. I like the game just that much.

You're right
"After the original Sir-tech had closed its doors, Wizardry lives on. Or at least the rights do, now owned by an obscure company called IPM, Inc. in Japan."

Oh well, that's that then. You'd be forgiven for thinking that the Japanese even use PS3s as work PCs, given how alienated the PC is over there.

I'd do the same with Syndicate. If nothing else it means that more people will be increasing Eurocorp's mind share.

Aeria IPM is the company whom bought the rights from Sir-Tech Canada.

Originally Sir-Tech (Non-Canada at the time) was sued by an individual named Andrew Greenberg (Wizard Werden, he alleged that he created the name, concept and plot for the game and was owed all royalties according to subsidiary contract...

Greenberg v. Sir-Tech

Well, Sir-Tech closed and Sir-Tech Canada was still open and argued it didn't need to pay money for the contract due to it being in Canada.. Greenberg argued, "Hey, you sell games in the states..."

Aeria IPM came along and bought the rights for Sir-Tech and continue to make Wizardry games in Japan.

Funny thing is... Guess who owns Aeria IPM? Gamespot... Yup...

Aeria IPM Businessweek Profile

So.. Getting the rights for the Wizardry series = the following:

1) Dealing with the Greenberg contract situation
2) Dealing with Aeria IPM
3) Dealing with Gamespot

Not as bad as the firesale that occurred for the rights of System Shock 2.. But still pretty interesting.
Looks at Wizardry 8 box sitting at his side. =D I'm so happy I bought this at Compusa when it first came out. Though the store security followed me around the whole place, and the cop at the entranceway glowered at me...haha! It was worth being treated like a criminal to buy this! On a side note: I wonder why Compusa went out of bussiness? lol
I do wish GOG would get the series here, it would be a great coup...here's to dreams coming true; though it sounds like it would be a lot of work, and I'm not sure GOG has the rescources yet to expend on it. Let us hope though. Until then, disc don't fail me now ;)
My original copy has the third cd scratched :( So I really hope in gog...
Ewww, scratched CD's SUCK! I learned the hard way to always make ISO image backups on my file server.
