mystral: That's interesting. I'm guessing Stardock is trying to fix financial trouble due to the relative failure of its two previous games.
If they're refocusing on games, I hope we'll see an increase in quality of their products.
Maybe Impulse will also improve and finally be a viable DD service for the rest of the world.
Or maybe that's too optimistic. ;)
Stardock has always had most of their income from sale of software such as Windows Blinds. I kind of wonder if Aero is finally eating into their profits now that Windows has finally caught up to where the rest of the UI world has been for 8 years or so. I get the feeling that a lot of their ability to do the whole risky game publishing thing was a direct result of having a stable, financial backer, themselves.
Impulse surely must be a money sink and its uselessness outside the US must hurt them a ton. "Their" games which have blown lately haven't even been theirs, they've been games they've underwritten as exclusives. I kind of wonder wtf the people at Stardock who actually make games have been doing lately.
Stardock seems better at the whole singleplayer experience and has usually delivered a solid product in said context. I'd like to see them give that one more go, I've bought everything they've done through Sins except maybe some odd expac.
mystral: Maybe, except that Bill gates never commented about the games Microsoft made, while Brad Wardell was certainly vocal about Elemental and Demigod.
So I'm guessing it's important to them.
Sielle: Important sure, but not enough that a couple failed games would require the sale of a whole division.
I didn't track Elemental, but I know Demigod was not their project. I think Elemental was someone else too.
