TheEnigmaticT: It appears that the server gnomes and the server kobolds are at war. We are attempting to broker a peace and restore the usual working order of servers. We'll let you know when it's fixed for reals.
What's the status of the server gremlins? Knowing them, they're probably staying neutral until they see which way the tide of battle is flowing, then jumping in on the winning side, the cowardly little bastards.
Let's just hope this sever flu brings us GG-style glitchy pricing. :)

SimonG: Took me less than a minute to find an "internet backup". No need to bother with it.
Internet backup is illegal.

That depends.

I'm scared, mommy :-(

In Poland it is, in case of software, period.

Well, I'm glad I'm not in Poland than. Or follow laws without thought.

lol, that's not the problem, I can dl almost every game ever released from Internet backup, so why do I bother to buy games on GOG?

Because I want legal copies, not "Internet backup" copies.

There's no point in what SimonG said (in my case), as he was talking about the solution I'm not interested in.

Well, I, on the other hand, buy games because I WANT TO. If I loose access to games I paid for, I wouldn't have any moral "breaks" from downloading them from Pirate Bay Cultural Museum.

You buy licenses on GOG. A license which (unlike retail) is not bound to anything but your person.

The copy you play of XIII from your backup and the copy of my XIII from the internet is exactly the same legally. As we both own the license.

Edit:

Getting the file of the internet is a different animal, as the music industry made sure to criminalize this. But once it hits the HD it make literally no difference where it came from for the right to use it.

True. You don't have to obtain your copy directly from GOG.

The only gray area I can think of is that torrenting means uploading too.

btw. downloading pirated music is not a crime in PL

The uploading makes you open towards a civil claim, due to damages.

In Germany it is "downloading from a shady source" or some BS like this that is a criminal violation. This was made to close the "no upload loophole".

The music and movie industry has spend billions in the last fifteen years to criminalize this and it is sickening. This is one of the few cases were the law only serves the interest of a selected few.

Unfortunately, it's not true, at least in Poland.

Polish law never states that you have to make your backup copy from the original file.

I wouldn't say it's clearly illegal. It is legal to crack games you bought, for example.

A licence to use software doesn't give you right to download that software from illegal source.
