Runehamster: You might want to consider carrying some ladders and torches in case you fall into a bottomless pit.
IMO it's better to carry gravel to get you out of pits rather than ladders, ladders cost a lot of resources to make early in the game.

Well, that's a thought. I usually use dirt early game, I'm usually busy converting gravel to flint so I can make arrowheads.

Personally prefer gravel or sand because it's affected by gravity, so if you are stuck on a ledge and want to go down you can "drop" blocks until they reach you and then dig your way down. Also if you use it to "climb" and somehow later end up at the bottom of your gravel/sand stack you can use a torch to rapidly get back all your blocks while with dirt or other gravity-less block you have to dig them one by one.

Popinjay: Navagon, that is incredible, how long did it take to construct?
I wish I knew. I just keep adding to it. It was started around the begining of Feb so it's had a good few hours invested in it now. I've just added a canal complete with several tunnels and bridges that exits somewhere near my harbour building (added some more screenshots).

Gersen: Probably the usual "south-west" (or is it "south-east" ?) bug, even if lava, fire, water is completely sealed, it's still possible to get burned/drowned if you touch the south-east corner of said block. Also sometime you have the little "fire-spark" thingy who are able to jump through the south-west corner and ignite your stuff.

I had the issue very often in a "under-lava" room at the bottom of my main base... that's why I decided to uses stone-slab as floor for this room instead of wood :).
I've got a lot of wooden floors too. But they're contained within a stone border just to be safe. Hopefully that will be enough.

KeitaroBaka: Here is my tower on a SMP server I host with friends. We don't give us resources with commands, it's real SMP ! It was about 3 evenings of work.

(Edit : real screenshot when i get home, my netbook can't handle minecraft (yes lame))

I overlooked this before. But that's one cool-looking tower. Especially the upper part of it. It looks like it was a tricky feat to construct it.

It looks cool. The top looks almost exactly like my SMP greenhouse which, sadly, doesn't look like that anymore, thanks to the 1.3 update. Oh well, once The Nether gets implemented in SMP, I'll restore it to its former glory.

It's not much compared to what I've seen here, but I built a copy of Manannan's mansion from King's Quest III.

I don't think I've seen Minecraft look so... 8 bit before. That first shot just captures what you were going for perfectly. Even the stairs are a good likeness. I don't know if there's a texture pack that will make it look even more retro, but it might be worth looking into.
