When MP3 was originally announced, I wasn't all that happy with it. It sounded like Rockstar was going to change some of the core aspects of the game, for no reason other than "because we can." A cover system, a main character that looked nothing like Max, and a setting more suited to Far Cry 2 than to a gritty noir drama.

But now that I've seen some footage and heard a little more about what they're trying to do with the game, I'm feeling a bit more convinced. The gameplay I've seen looks very much like that of the original 2 games, and it seems like it will be tying in the new setting with flashbacks to the rainy streets and leather jackets that we all know.

I know that there were a lot of people that felt the same as me when the game was announced. I was wondering if you too feel differently now?
Why and whats the point of a cover system?. Max with a shaved head is a good look lol.Older Max :).
I think I can understand the point of the cover system, now that I know they aren't turning the game into the typical bob up and down shooting gallery. Max Payne's gameplay was heavily inspired by the sort of action you see in John Woo films... or similar movies. And in those films, characters regularly take cover behind things, even though a lot of the action is very kinetic and stylish. So it lets you "role play" a little, I guess. I mean, you have to admit that it'd be kinda cool to be backed up against a wall, firing around the corner, then suddenly whip out bullet time and dive out, spraying the room with bullets.

Or, it's because they assume that modern gamers can't play anything that doesn't let them mate with chest-high walls :P
I wont say that it will be a "bad" game .... but I feel that is every way it will fail as a Max Payne game.

If you don't mind me asking, what footage did you see and what did you hear about the game that made you change your mind? Everything I've read and seen makes it look like they are changing it from being a Max Payne game to a piece of crap modern shooter. He doesn't even look like Max Payne.

Where is my black and white noire style?
Why is Max wearing a dirty tanktop and looks like a skinhead?
Eh I'll pass.
I've been a big Max Payne fan for many years and I for one am looking forward to seeing what Rockstar will do. Rockstar has an excellent record for making fine games.

In terms of changing the settting etc. I don't get why everyone is complaining. We as gamers always complain when things don't change enough (i.e. the popular hatred of COD for its similarity) and then when a company tries to be creative (like with Assassins creed 3 as well) then everyone also complains.

I say, hold your judgement till its out and its better to be optimistic that it will be a good game.

That's usually the attitude I have with new releases.

However, I heard that Rockstar sent their story drafts and some of their arts frequently to Remedy to make sure they got it right. And apparently, Remedy is happy with their work.
Well Max does look a bit different - grittier, older, is the same voice actor being used?. Will Rockstar still use the comic book scenes at some point?.

They did used the style in their introduction of GTA 3. They probably won't use it full-time (due to their intensive use of motion capture) but they'll definitely reference it.

James McCaffrey is back not only as the voice of Max Payne, but also as his motion capture actor. In addition, Max' younger self is now modeled after him (instead of Sam Lake and Timothy Gibbs).
I really look forward to it. It looks very well designed, and the videos I have seen have shown some amazing animation. Also you get play as regular Max and skinhead Max, so it's all good.

I haven't heard much about this game other than the launch - does Max still look like a drunk Bruce Willis?
Max Payne + Rockstar is a sad joke. Can you imagine Mafia 2 made by them? Ugh, this image will be haunting me now.

Mafia 2 is disappointing already compared to the first masterpiece.

I don't know what to think about MP3. But it doesn't feel like it's like the original 2. The gunfights seem fine, everything else seem off. That said MP will not be complete until it has a Kung Fu mod.
