So is there any way one could intsall the linux version using the GOG installer files?
Yeah, I have to second this. Since neverwinter nights ran natievly under linux as well as windows it'd be nice to get a solid linux installer...

There's probably a way, but not supported by GOG. After all, it's windows compatible in the front site.
Download the linux client here: http://nwn.bioware.com/downloads/linuxclient.html

Just copy the files after installing them to Windows, or download the stuff from one of the sites.
I had NWN running on Red Hat 9 back in the day, I used my windows discs and a seperate installer program called, I think, Ravage? I don't recall if it would allow you to install from a file, but as you usually have to put the drive path in, it couldn't hurt to try.

There's a guide from bioware for installing using an existing windows installation here:
http://nwn.bioware.com/downloads/linuxclient.html
Not sure if it works with the GOG version, and you would still need to use wine to install the game.

I'll give it a try this weekend. If it works, does anybody know if GOG could acquire the rights to redistribute it as "extra content" with the game?

Yes i know, but if you look at the guide you will notice the tool requires a CD-KEY. Hopefully GOG could distribute some keys via support like they do for some games. In that case using the game files from a windows install should work

This Might help for those wishing to do a Linux install. You'll need various parts of a windows install, so I suggest installing on a windows partition so that you can get access to the data files required.

So does the download come with the install keys? the ones needed for online play?

I've already got the install media but want new copies of the CD keys so I can get friends playing.

I don't really need the 2.1 Gb download, just new CD keys
You guys know that you only have to install the WINE package and then you can run the installer and the game in Linux? Right?

For the extraction of game data from the installer, wine should be fine. But for running the game, a native linux binary should run much better than the windows binary used through wine.
Still, NWN seems to run decently with Wine (except the toolset apparently) as seen here.
I would also love some official support/packaging from GOG.
There are so many Linux users buying games from GOG and they just don't realize it.
Do they even post on the forums ?

If anyone knows/tried to install the NWN GOG version on Linux, please let us know how it works.

Thanks
Maxim.

I got it to run fine by installing the latest wine, then running the setup_nwn_diamond.exe file in wine. As straightforward as that.

The only issues at the minute are no sound, and screen resolution is wrong. I haven't tried to fix them as yet, will do tomorrow or over the weekend.

Cheers,

EM
For those that do want to run NWN natively under Linux, take a look at these hacks. They can be a pain to install, especially the hardware cursor, but if you can manage it they help bring the Linux port to par with the Windows one.

There's information on how to obtain a CD-key in the support articles section for NWN. It's titled "Online play in Neverwinter Nights Diamond", at the top of the subsection "Installing and / or launching issues".
