I reinstalled NWN Diamond edition and have encountered a bug that is new to me. The terrain in several areas of the game are missing. The terrain shows straight through to the background color and the skybox is missing as well.

I have tried a few things fruitlessly and have not seen others have this particular issue with a resolution. I've already reinstalled, updated my drivers, and run the 1.69 critical rebuild.

The textures do show up with the in-game texture set to 16 MB (Compatibility Mode); no other in game changes affect the issue. Though, this is the lowest the game has to offer and somewhat annoying. I would appreciate it if anyone has any advice or has run into this before.

System:
Windows 7 64-bit
HD 7850 (CCC 14.12)

Edit: I've figured out it's not the driver as far as I can tell. I rolled back all the way to 12.9 (2012) and have the same issue. I played the game flawlessly back then so I cannot quite figure out what changed beyond my OS updates.

On the shortcut to the game, right click and select 'Properties' >> 'Compatibility', then check 'Disable Visual Themes' and 'Disable Desktop Composition'. -- you could also try selecting one of the compatibility modes. Apply >> OK.

I have tried those and ended up with no new results, unfortunately.

When you installed NWN did you install it in Admin mode?

Some parts of DirectX9.0c (which NWN depends on very much) have been depricated in subsequent versions, but you CAN have more than one DirectX installed. I recommend you get the SDK for DirectX9.0c from microsoft.com web site - install that and see if it clears up the missing bits.

NWN is best run in compatability mode XP SP2 or SP3 just fyi.

I reinstalled as an admin and ran the redistributable for dx 9.0. Or at least I think i did. I installed and ran the dxsetup.exe from the full SDK and the one directly from DirectX 9.0c. Is there another way to install them?

No, I think you have completed the tasks needed:

INSTALL NWN AS ADMIN
INSTALL DIRECTX9.0C AS ADMIN (the SDK for this from microsoft.com is the best choice but the distributable should work ok)
RUN NWN IN ADMIN MODE, COMPATABILITY MODE SP2 OR 3

That done, what are your results?

Still negative. All installed and run as admin in both sp2 and sp3 modes. At this point I've just gotten comfortable with playing on the lowest textures. I may test again the next time I need to reformat my computer.

Though, I have two notes that make this installation different from before on the exact same computer

- I needed to use the "rename nwnmain.exe" fix to get the game to run at all.
- A common problem that a lot of people have is not being able to see in game movies. Setting Textures to 16-Bit (Compatibility) seems to alleviate it for me.
