UPDATE: So I think I have fixed the issue. After trying all of the below (including Critial Rebuild patch) I deleted the game (kept save games) and re-installed it (did not re-download) and installed the critical patch again. Now is running smooth like before. Not sure if it will lag up again but seem to have found a fix that doesn't take too much time to implement. Wierd that it does that.

Hi all,

Recently got NWN Diamond the other day. Been running fine on full settings, however, as of today, starting from around middle of the stinger caves in interlude it started stuttering a bit (both gfx and sound). When I got to Oasis the music virtually didn't play, it stuttered so much and there is now noticable lag.

I tried reloading to an earlier save point, the issue persists and I also started a new game in HoTu and again, the lag now persists.

I have tried changing all the gfx settings, even setting all to low, no change. I set everything to service pack 2 compatibility (xp) and Disable Desktop Composition (as was recommended in another post). I did notice improved performance when loading the game (intro logs no longer tear) but only a slight increase in game performance.

I am not sure why this started all of a sudden and now persists over all games, I have no made any changes to my comp during this time.

Computer Specs are as follows
OS: Win 7 64 Bit
Processor: Intel Core i7-2700k CPU @3.50GHz
Processors: 4
RAM: 8gb
Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 680
Total Graphics Memory: 4GB
Dedicated Graphics Memory: 2GB
DirectX Version: 10
Free Hard Disk Space: 128GB Free

Anybody have any suggestions, cannot seem to find any other issue that is similar.

Thanks in advance

I am glad to hear you may have resolved your issue.

IF it re-appears, you may want to get the SDK (Software Developers Kit) for DirectX9.0c directly from microsoft.com. NWN uses that direct x version - depends on it greatly, and some of the features of that version were deprecated in more recent versions. You CAN have more than one DirectX installed on your system simultaneously, so I strongly recommend getting the SDK if you see any further trouble.

I am also presuming the lag/stutter did not impact anything else on your system? I say this as malware is everywhere these days and lag in non-multiplayer games can sometimes be a tell-tale an infection.

Thanks for the feedback. I will have a look at the SDK as that could very well be the issue.

There was no other unnusual lag or stutter. At first I suspected my GFX card as that has been having some issues lately (overheating on light loads etc). I got MSI afterburner to help with the cooling but also ran a few other games to test performance. I tested Shadows of Mordor as that has a decent requirement on the system and that ran smooth as a charm, it was indeed, only NWN that suddenly started lagging. AV has not picked up anything but running another scan just to be sure.

Thanks for the feedback!
