The henchmen aren't using their skills much of the time. I know there are mods for better henchmen, but I'm wanting to play vanilla the first couple times through. Much of the time they don't give the identify option and that's basically the main reason to choose Deekin. I'm 9th level now and the Dorna won't disable traps anymore (think she was 14 skill or so, with the rogue gloves and master amulet). I don't remember having problems in previous playthroughs on nonGOG version, aside of Dorna saying "Can't do that" if the trap or lock was too high for her. They're also not using listen, spot, or search, when I go into detect mode, but I'm not sure if they normally do this much unmodded. Any help is appreciated.
I'm having the same issue with Dorna. She wouldn't open locks or disarm traps for the longest time. I managed to get her to open locks again by talking to her and asking her to help when I came across a locked chest or door. I can't remember if I had to let her go and rehire her before she would do that for me. I still haven't figured out a way to get her to disarm traps though which is p!ssing me off.
You can instruct NPCs to use certain skills using their radial menus or by conversing with them. There is an "auto-help" on by default, but it can be toggled off and on the NPC conversation, too.
I might be wrong, but I think my problem was that I had passed them in their skills and they would no longer identify or search/disable for me.
My character didn't have any levels in lockpick and Dorna still wouldn't open locked items for me unless I specifically "asked" her to using the radial menu. Not a big deal since I've finished SoU but it was really annoying having to keep on healing myself everytime I came across a trap that I had to set off to get by.
