mojoman69: Sorry but you are the troll trying to flame and start arguments.

That is a perfect reason not to get the game. I don't want to lose 10% of the viewing area. I refuse to buy 1 of those cheap crap 1920*1080 monitors.

Lavec: It depends how you look at it. I upgraded my 1920x1200 24" monitor to a 32" 1920x1080 monitor and I can tell you it looks and feels a lot better :p

Anyway since it bothers you don't buy the game on launch. They have announced a patch to bring native support for 16:10, so wait until then :) Glad you are not angry about the wait.

Edit: Oh and since you won't get the 10% discount for pre-ordering I guess it's a win-win for everyone, you get 16:10 support and CD Projekt get 10% more from you :)
I didn't know there was 32" monitors out yet? If you are talking about a Full HD TV them games just don't look as good as they do on a PC monitor.

TigerLord: I'm curious as to how this even came to be?

Professional workstations usually use professional S-IPS panels (either a Dell or HP if on budget, or Eizio if they have the money), and most if not ALL professional panels have a 16:10 aspect ratio nowadays.

Why 16:9 specifically? It's weird.
16:9 screens are best for movies
16:10 is better for gaming.

If I don't buy it at $45 I won't be getting it. I will test a friends copy on my computer to see if it is that bad. so no the publishers won't get any extra money, In-fact they will lose the whole sale. I didn't know there was a discount for pre orders so you are saying preorders get 10% off? That's cool then it will only cost $40.50 USD

They didn't have time to support more then 1 aspect ratio natively. 70-72% of the market has Widescreen monitors, I wouldn't doubt for high end gamers it is more then 70-72% who use Widescreen. Anyways, the point is most people have widescreen monitors. If they supported 16x10 as the native, then on a 16x9 monitor either the top of the picture is cut off and there is information at the top of the screen so that is bad, or the picture has to be smashed down and everything would look fat.

But with a 16x9 native, then for people with 16x10 all they see is black bars. Any reasonable person would agree that having black bars on top/bottom is a lot better then smashing a picture down to make everything look fat and distorted or lose vital information that is on the top of the screen.

16x9 as the native when they only have time to support 1 is the most logical aspect ratio to use.

Besides, I am hoping they give true 16x10 support, meaning that we truely get more picture on our screen over the 16x9 aspect ratio. What I mean by this is that I have not seen 1 game yet do true 16x10 support. What every game has done so far is take the 16x9 picture, cut off the sides to fit on a 16x10 aspect ratio effectively giving less FOV for the 16x10 compared to the 16x9.

What I am hoping is that we get the same Horizontal FOV as the 16x9, but with more Vertical view over the 16x9.

Good example of what every game does for 16x10 support and how we are actually getting less of the picture over the 16x9 is here http://www.gamespot.com/features/6251839/index.html

Interesting, but my point was that the devs probably work on 16:10 monitors themselves, as professional monitors that sport S-IPS panels are usually all in that ratio. So they actually developed the product to support an aspect ratio they didn't even use. A bit weird.

In any case I don't mind the bars much.

I was just replying to your post when you added that bit :)

The FOV is often implemented by cutting the edges because most 16:10 monitors are in fact smaller than 16:9 monitors and it makes for a zoomed out fisheye look (image 4:3 doing the same and you see what I mean - you would see your feet and the sky). After all we call them widescreen monitors and not 4:3 tallscreen monitors :) It's expected you get more horizontal view the wider the screen. It also better matches our natural eye field of view which has more horizontal peripheral vision than vertical. Hence I don't really agree that what you describe is "true 16x10 support".

But you never know. In this case it's starting with 16:10 having black bands top and bottom (we think) so it would make sense to fill them out rather than zoom in and lose the sides.
I have no problem with this because I already play The Witcher at 1920x1080, even though my monitor's native res is 1920X1200. Anyone who played The Witcher 1 with a 16:10 resolution probably noticed (or should have noticed) screen tearing in the form of those awful horizontal bars during cutscenes, which were displayed at a 16:9 aspect ratio. Playing the whole game at 16:9 solved that problem, and so keeping it that way with Witcher 2 won't phase me a bit. I don't notice the slight black bars at all.

Why does complaining about something automatically make someone a troll? Fair enough, you disagree with him, and maybe his threat to cancel is a tad petty, but it does not make him a troll. The "T" word is bandied about way too much these days, and most people use it in error, you included.

The devs already knew about the issue, they have received their the complaint and they are fixing it.

Tell me this if you are not trolling when i repeatedly ASKed your name and YOU answered me your name is Kurgen and i kept on asking the same...

I personally only use it when discusing creatures living under obstacle spanning infrastructure. And then check if I have some fire or acid handy, just in case.

I am not a troll because I'm not trying to start argument I'm just giving my opinion. You are the one trolling by the sounds of it.

I ended up buying the game yesterday anyway.

I bought the game despite this issue too..and I don't like it. I hope it supports 16:10 as I can't afford to go get a new monitor..too many other expenses...
@mojoman69
congratulations for buying the game! you have made a worthy purchase in MY honest opinion. i'm not here to offend anyone and apologies for my tone earlier.. just that the aspect ratio has been argued to death and even devs have already spoken they are fixing it. have faith with CDPR folks. looks at witcher1.. they even managed to fix the long load times.

Game is installing right now. So i will see if The image is stretched or if i get black bars. I might just use my 32" LG 1080P Full HD to just until the fix it for 19:10.
I am canceling my pre-order if they do not spell Witcher as Vitcher...
How dare they...
