I have just defeated Dethmold's men in chapter 2. Dethmold is just stood behind the barrier and I can't go through. Am I missing anything?

Happens to some people. In fact, I'd go so far as to say it's one of the more common bugs.
Some people got through just by reloading an earlier save. Others had to reload a save and get through the fight without finishing moves. Others had to get through the fight without using Heliotrope. Some people found that saving Dethmold for last unbugged the quest for them.
That last one seems to work the most.
