How do you cancel a download from the launcher? I accidently pressed download on the English voice overs in the Downloadable content. But it keeps saying error writing file so i just want to cancel it but i cant find how to do that. Anyone able to help?
Same exact problem here! Would love to find an answer without having to re-install the whole game.
you'll have to use regedit for it.

first of all close the witcher launcher

windows start - execute - regedit

go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER / Software / CD Project RED / The Witcher 2 / Downloads

double click on any REG_Binary type registry you have on the right. You should see a dialog with numbers and text on the right. If you read something like english voice overs on the text, press ok and then delete that registry.

after you deleted whatever you want restart the launcher and you shouldn't see anything downloading anymore

Heres what it shows when I do that:

I don't see the word ebglish or voice-overs or anything else. Am I looking in the right place?

Thanks for the help btw.
Before you bother with your registry, just close the launcher (and make sure it's closed via task manager). Run the patcher.exe. For me, that reset the launcher (and my game settings, so if you had made changes to video etc, re-make them). Now load up the launcher.

I was retarded enough to think we had to download the english sounds as well. ;p

The registry path is for those who didn't get this method to work.

double click on the registrys to open a dialog where the english text should be seen

btw the patcher.exe method never worked for me and this way worked
Awsome!! Thank you, deleting the registries(running patcher didnt work for me either) fixed several problems. It doesnt even show English vocie/text in the dlc menu, it doesnt try downloading it, and it doesnt hang when I exit the launcher anymore.

Much appreciated, cheers!
Ugh! After doing that I tried running the game and an "insert disc/disc is not inserted" warning, the game starts anyways and all my settings are reset, then I exited the game and re-entered my graphics options to what they were and restarted the game, it reset them again.

So I un/re-installed the game and it does the exact same thing, the insert disc/disc in not inserted warning, it starts anyways, but always on the lowest graphics settings with my controls reset.

Any idea what I did? I only deleted the 4 language registries in the download registry.

Thankfully my save was still there after all this.
Try ccleaner after uninstalling it'll flush out any rogue or leftover registry entries, it prompts to back up any changes too so you can revert any changes if anything weird happens. It can also flush out gigs of wasted space too, it's a good all round tool
Hey, cool. I didnt even think of using my registry cleaner software, I'll give it a shot.
Nope, same thing. Guess I'll just have to wait until they release the patch and hope that works.

If anyone has any other suggestions feel free to let me know and ill try it!

Thanks to everybody for help.
really strange, what you deleted shouldn't have any impact regarding that error

but to tell you the truth i had the gog version and from what it seems you run a drm version which i don't know if it works differently
After you make your video changes, check your user.ini file to see if they've actually been changed.

The exact location is dependent on your version of windows, but generally it'll be in your documents, witcher 2, config folder.

If it did make the change there, then run the game.

See if it changed the values to the low resolution ones you described.

If it did, re-do your changes, and this time make the file read only.

Now, try re-launching the game and see if it keeps your saved video changes.
I'm running the GoG version as well, that's why it was so strange.

I finally got it fixed by uninstalling the Witcher 2, deleting any left over files manually(except my save of course), and then deleting the entire CD Projekt RED registry. I had to re-register my game, but it worked!

Then, of course, I selected Troll Trouble form the DLC section and clicked the infamous download button. So, I'm back where I started until they get the servers back up/patch the game. But at least I fixed the problem I caused.
The patch 1.1 solved it for me :> Because it removed the download from the menu XD
