I bought the retail version and had no problems with TW2 except for maybe some frame rate issues. I was excited to see that the new patch could improve frame rate by up to 30%. I havent had a change to download the patch, but I am wondering if i should. Reading these forums, it appears that almost no one had any improvement and most it has made things worse.

So, should I bother with the patch? I also have a question about where to get the patch. I assume since I bought it from retail I should get the patch from the official website?
Unless you're brand new to the internet, you probably know that people without problems are far less likely to post than people with them. ;p

That said, performance upgrades are mostly tied to SecureRom and that's mostly aimed at dual core machines, so if you're playing just fine, I don't see any reason why you'd patch.

This isn't an MMO. Patches don't add content. ;p They're bug fixes, and if you aren't affected, don't use them.

I especially wouldn't patch if you use a gamepad, as it breaks the analog sticks within menus, forcing you to use the D-pad instead.
I got a small FPS increase and none of the negative side effects people have been complaining about. Not sure about controller problems because I use the mouse and keyboard, but everything else is working fine.
Yes, it helps me a lot. I have a HD 4850 1 GB and i can play it in ultra, just Ubersampling and V-sync off. Maybe i have no 60 FPS, but i am happy with the framerate i am getting.

And some bugs i suffered before are not there anymore.
I got a small FPS increase which is fine since my FPS was fine before.

I also like having no DRM on the retail version and getting the DLC in installers.
Well it has enabled the Troll Trouble DLC for me and it has given me about 10 FPS extra, so I would call that pretty decent.
Also retail here. Only things I noticed is the game loads faster. Now 15ish seconds before screen goes black. Was 60ish+ before.

Mouse seems a tiny bit more responsive.

Backup your user.ini if you manually modified your keyboard much because the patch sets it to install defaults.

GL on a FPS boost. :)
I'm not new to the net, and you are right, I figured the most vocal community would be the ones with the problems, but I wanted to get a better feel if it was a minority or majority of the current forum community.

I have a quad core machine with a 250gts nvidia card. Not sure how that ranks up in terms of equipment but it seems to work for me.

I dont use a game pad either, I havent bothered with any type of joystick for the comp since the xwing series of games.

I would love a higher fps but if its the general consensus to not download the patch I will wait. I was just wondering if people are seeing the 30% increase in FPS and if it was worth the risk to download the patch. I like to gamble, but you've gotta weight the risk vs reward first and right now Im kinda in the dark on both the risk and the reward.

Thanks for the great advice.
I have the digital version and I got a major fps increase. From 45 FPS (on high) at loaded areas it's increased to 65-70FPS. I have i5 760 and GTX 460, maybe after all it depands on your specs.
For what it's worth, the patch did nothing for me, nor did it bring me any problems. But, I have the GoG version of the game, which never had DRM to begin with.

I seem to be in the same boat, mostly.

GOG version, i7 2600k, 4GB RAM, ATI 5870. I didn't have too many issues with the game prior to the patch - Troll Trouble DLC downloaded and worked for me just fine prior-patching. I had some random crashes (exit to desktop) when leaving a house. Not sure if it has been fixed or not with the patch; it hasn't happened since.

BUT - some of the villagers in Flotsam are still NOT WEARING PANTS. I think this is a hilarious bug. My girlfriend walked over and asked why the fishmonger was only wearing underwear. LOL.

They're shorts. Someone actually explained the correct medieval term in another thread, but I forget what it was. It's not a bug. :p

Truly? Haha. Well I'll be. My medieval knowledge of period clothing is clearly not up to standard ;-) I had a good laugh over this one.
I bought the both the CE and the gog version.
I installed the CE first since I got that first, but later when I installed the gog version my game felt smoother and the start uptime went from 30 sec to maybe 10 sec max.
everyone who bought the retail, should atleast get that sensation one would think. (atleast if you got a dual core or low ram)
Increased my FPS from 45-62 before and 60-80 after. I have seen nothing but improvements since patching. As far as the gamepad Sticks work fine for movement I use the dpad for menus which I had to do before the patch anyway
