boozee: I played on hard, maybe that is the difference? there is a blue bar with a shield icon. you need to destroy the blue bar before you can damage his health bar.

vAddicatedGamer: If I managed to roll behind him to backstab, it seems like his hit points go down while his shield is left untouched.
it is not his actual combat shield. I wrote a blue bar with a shield icon. it should be his armor.
