I was a little disappointed when I read this, but I realized that anyone who did that isn't really exploring, talking to random people, or having fun with crafting, etc. That's fine, but I'm having a GREAT time enjoying the very smooth combat system, and am thinking about how I might build Geralt differently on a 2nd playthrough, as well as considering going through Witcher 1 (which I was able to pick up for five bucks), and using that save to play my 2nd time through, so I'm going to definitely get my money's worth out of this title, and hopefully it will be long enough that I want to explore the dialogue fully the 2nd time through, as well, or even take some different decision paths, some of which are pretty interesting!
i spent at least 3 hours looking at the scenery and exploring the house in La Valette... different type of play i think. i'm a PC gamer. they're not
Seems like there's some truth to the shortness of the game.

What a shame really.
I guess that's what happens when you set an exact release date too far upfront.

BenHurt: Does it really matter? If someone wants to rush through a game and brag about how quickly they "beat" it -- good for them. They are welcome to their adolescent penis points.
Your last post, all great points and all, but I must sig this! ;^)
I actually Laughed Out Loud, instead of lol'd!
I have to agree in that they are probably not taking on the side quests or much else and staying dead on center with the main quest. Being a moderator on another forum, it takes me forever to get through anything due to the time I spend there. Little better on the console as I can just get up and walk over and check on the forum from time to time. I played thriugh the first one several times, and I don'y know how much time I put into each play through, but it was a bunch as I try to get in all the side quests and stuff and explorer all that there is to explore.
i all ready played about 12 hours but with the Bruins on and college i just don't have the time

AudreyWinter: Oooold pc wisdom: save early, save often. ;)
Especially with the sudden ctd's some are experiencing (including me).

If someone rushes through a game like a whirlwind without thinking on their decisions, without crafting, alchemy and so on, that's not roleplaying, that's a virtual pissing contest. ;)

I've been asking around for the play time statistics for days, but they just seem to have forgotten that. Like a whole bunch of other things that ANY beta tester should have picked up on. Very strange. But woth my playing so slowly, I might just get the missing pieces patched or modded before the end of my first playthrough. ;D
I found an interesting one. Choose The blue stripes when fighting Letho. Find Cedric in Chapter 1. Go to Elven runes. Talk to Zoltan to rescue Iorverth, then press talk before scoiatel shows up (it's a fraction of a second) Ask him to arm wrestle. All of the sudden zoltan is floating in the middle of the air as if he was ready to arm wrestle all that while keeping a conversation with the scoiatel. It looks as if he was taking ONE. LOL.
they skip all dialogue and did the main quest only. one guy got 100% bomb dmg and just bomb his way through the game.

but it is pc gamer :P they will praise your game to death if you buy advertisement :P I tried one of their podcasts, they manage to mention peggle like 50+ times in 1 session. needless to say I stop going to that site since. it has been 3+ years.

eurogamer gave plenty of games like 5-7 scores when they bought full site advertising. that takes balls and +1 permanent site visitor.

12 hours is probably possible, but it kills the fun and immersion of the game to play it this way.

Btw, there are Morrowind speed runs on youtube where people complete the main quest in Morrowind in 7 minutes or less.
There was also a way to complete Oblivion in like 5 minutes. You have to exploit a bug to do it though. A bug I think they removed (physics-less paintbrushes which you could climb like a ladder)

All I all though, I agree, I don't see the point of rushing to the end on a game like this. It took me about 35 hours for my first run.

chaosapiant: How are people measuring their gameplay hours on the GOG release? I see know way to measure game time outside of paying attention to what time it is in the real world.

I personally dont beleive it (12 hours)

my first play through (which 1/2 was on easy setting...which is way faster then normal or hard, expessionally early on) I missed all the post board quests in chapters 2 and 3 and my total time played was roughly 53 hours.

I could see cutting that down to 30 hours through more efficiant (paying more attention to detail) but thats about it!

12 hours just isnt doable imo and not to call them liars but they lieing!
I have no idea how anyone could manage to beat it in 12 hours... unless you set out to play the game to finish it that quickly. And even so, I would assume they'd have to sit on the computer all day to do it. And who has enough free time to do that?

Bah, if you're playing it that fast your missing the point, but hey, I guess anyone is free to play a game however they want.
I see this with a lot of RPG type games. People rush through it, then post on the boards about how they did everything in the game and bitch about how short it was. But there's no way in hell you can run through a game like this the first time through in 12 hours and do everything. Hell, I'm only just getting to the kayren fight after doing everything I possibly can and I've been playing almost every night since release (I think I've missed 4 nights) for a minimum of 2 hours. That's at least 20 hours so far and probably closer to 30. I know I play slower than many people, but still... 12 hours for the whole game? I have to think they missed a ton of content, completely skipped the dialog, did no crafting or alchemy, and didn't read anything in the journal.
pretty good chance they were playing it on steam.

when i played oblivion i was up over 12 hours played but steam was trying to tell me i only had 3 hours.
