Hi everyone,

I've updated to EE and I do love the extra content provided. As I only just arrived in Flotsam I can't comment yet on the new quests/characters.

Stuff I like:
- the chapter transition cutscenes, endings and also the narration by Dandelion. they're very well done.
- they added dialogue volume. now I can hear Geralt without him being drowned by music.
- the feature to turn on/off DLC
- they fixed the missing icons in dice poker. yay!

Stuff I didn't like:
- longer load times. I noticed that this becomes much worse because of the accumulating autosaves so I had to clean up the saves frequently
- sometimes the game would just crash to desktop. no error. no message. thank goodness for the Autosaves.

So how was EE for you guys? and please keep it spoiler-free :)
Stuff I liked: being able to play the game before the EE patch

Stuff I don't like. integrating patch 2.1 now prevents me from even launching the game.

oh man that sucks. Have you tried the GOG backup version for a fresh install?
Silly question, but is the enhanced edition a 66MB patch if you have the game, or do you need to re-download the entire set of install files?

if you already have the game, the EE update is roughly around 11GB.

I predownloaded mine. But had to re-download some files because of the installer corrupt issue.

Pretty much this. Except I didn't do the patch. I did a fresh install with the EE files, and that doesn't work either. I hope there is a solution to this, but I am doubtful seeing as how every solution that has been posted on here or the witcher website technical FAQs and forums hasn't solved it.

The mods are doing their best over there. surprised there is so little mention of this problem on this site. Not a word from the devs regarding the issue.

Started a new game for this and just got to flotsam. I have a spoiler question regarding the new Dandelion cutscene when you arrive:

(Spoiler warning) He said something about Geralt's "Unexpected Child"? Was I not paying attention or did he mean geralt had a son with yennefer? Aren't witchers sterile? Or was it just a comment meaning something else and I wasn't paying attention?

Yeah they're sterile. I think he was talking about Cirri..
Not me, for all these reasons:

http://www.gog.com/en/forum/the_witcher_2/annoying_bugs_remaining_after_enhanced_edition_update

Simple fact is that while The Witcher 2 is well written and gorgeous, its gameplay is ridiculously lacking, poorly balanced, buggy and clunky at the best of times. Good encounter design and meaningful combat situations go completely to waste because the controls, engine, AI etc. all conspire against you. This becomes extremely apparent on the higher difficulties, where precision movement and attacks are next to impossible, and the split-second lags in the controls mean instant death.

Adding to that are some more fundamental problems with the controls and interface (like mapping everything to LMB, aka Awesome Button, which means no interacting/looting during combat, which when combined with all the respawning enemies makes even basic tasks a chore, or animation priority that sees Geralt standing in place for like 3 seconds when I try to throw a bomb in combat with no way for me to interrupt it), which while not "necessary" to fix, would have greatly improved The Witcher 2.

I was willing to put up with its flaws when it came out a year ago because it looked great and had some nice characters, but man, I'm sorry, it is just borderline broken next to most games released even in the last 5-7 years, and even relatively dumbed-down console-oriented stuff like Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning looks and plays elegantly in comparison. Put simply, it's just not fun to interact with as a game. After the original Enhanced Edition I was hoping for some bigger overhauls to remedy these problems... I guess that was wishful thinking, because CD Projekt apparently are more concerned with spending their budget on outsourcing expensive intro movies than with crafting controls and UI that work for the platform. Seriously, when even Gothic 3 plays better than The Witcher 2 most of the time, you know something's wrong.

Suffice it to say, I only finished The Witcher 2 once, vs. about 3 times for the original. I literally cannot bring myself to play the game past chapter 1 because of these near game-breaking issues which have been completely ignored in the Enhanced Edition in favour of new expansion content. Not that I don't appreciate the new stuff of course, it's great, but I'll take the first game's awkward clickathon combat and simple, well-laid-out PC-style interface over heaps of new gameplay and story any day.

What really gets to me is one of the methods they listed over on the faqs on the witcher website is to use this .NET cleanup tool. Well, I used it, and now I can't even get .NET 4 back on my computer at all. Now it always rolls back, tells me it encountered a fatal error, and all other kinds of stuff.

It's getting to the point where I am just gonna cut my loses, walk away from this game and not buy from this company again. It's one thing when something doesn't work. But then when you give me a list of possible ways to solve the problem, and one of these ways actually messes my computer up even more, that is just unacceptable.
