I'm a little bit annoyed because the game is nearly unplayable with the small font. I assume with proper 5:4 it would at least be readable.

I could live with the black bars.

Would have liked a warning about that, at least in tests/magazines.

OK, slower second playthrough of TW1...
Ya i got 16:9 widescreen monitor and I done everything I could to get rid of black bars on top and bottom without success...hard to play a game like that.

Same problem here, 1600x1200, the text is UNREADABLE to me. I haven't mentioned the black bars yet, it's really down turner :-(

So far the graphics are great (started when I created a copy named fear.exe to get more FPS) but I can't enjoy playing it. I miss the text in the tutorial because it's so small it takes to much time to read and when I'm half through it fades away. That's really annoying :-(
I'm running at 1400x1050 (odd res. I know, but the picture quality for this 20 inch LCD is awesome) and I have a LOT of black bar around my viewport as well.
I don't mind that much, but with the visible game at 1400x788 the text on the UI is extremely tiny. The dialog text is fine though.
I can read it (so it's certainly playable), but eyestrain sets in pretty quickly.

Hopefully the patch enabling 4:3 support comes out quickly.

Denezan: I have to say, I myself hate the fact there are black bars on my screen. The game looks smooshed up, everything is so small, and I dont feel like im playing a game, I feel like im watching a widescreen movie. I can cope with a widescreen movie with the bars, but I cannot stand to see it in a game. My eyes hurt trying to see what I am doing, and so far I am hating the game already, and this was supposed to be better than the first game. Instead it feels worse.

Leondres: I'm with ya on this one. I know a patch for it is in the works. I don't mind waiting simply because I know how good a company CD projekt is. On 1920x1200 it seems like so much of the game is cut off for me and it drives me crazy.
Yeah I dont mind waiting either. Just wish I did not have to wait in order to play this game. I know if I try and play it now, I will end up with major headache after about 10 minutes of play. Yes it is THAT bad :(

StingingVelvet: Widescreen has been around for quite a while now and has arguable been the standard for 5+ years now. I'm not saying you guys are wrong, but you are certainly a minority and using old tech.
Eh, too bad that you don’t seem to base your claims on facts. According to the March Steam survey regarding resolutions and formats only 30.58% use a resolution with 4:3 format. That means that almost 70% of the users have to make do with black bars. But sure, go ahead and imply that only a “minority” is affected by this ... yeah, right.
The bars are really large but what bothers me is the small text as well especially in the tutorial boxes and the damage and experience messages....

I got 1280x1024 too, hope there will be a patch for the aspect ratio soon :O...

You have that backwards.
30.58% with 4:3 have black bars.

Bear in mind that currently only people using 16:9 have no black bars.
My 16:10 has small bars for example.

I'd say in the PC monitor statistics only a very small portion use a native 16:9 screen, so people without bars would undoubtedly be in the minority.

Steam survey does not equal an accurate portrayal of "real" PC gamers let's remember. For one thing a ton of PC gamers never participate and for another a ton of people use Steam solely for casual games and other such things on older, non-gaming PCs.
Yes, and its not like other games support all resolutions without bars.... hehe...

Since when are Steam surveys not mandatory? As far as I know they are done without ever asking you by simply reading out your data in the background.

No, just a typo. I meant to write “16:9” instead of “4:3”.
Yeah, its annoying as hell. I really hate the black bars. Both in film, on TV, and in games. I payed quite a bit of money for my monitor/TV, I'd like to use ALL of it. Hopefully it gets patched.

I'm sure it will be, just got to wait now as much as I really want to play. I'd rather wait and enjoy then be annoyed.

It's the same thing with Eyefinity/Nvidia Surround users. I'm sure it will be addressed, but the waiting is what will kill us.

I still don't mind. I don't blame them for choosing to pick fixing bugs over supporting resolutions first. Give their record, I'm more then happy to wait for the patch.
