Failing a QTE shoudl not make me restart the boss fight - just the QTE.

Also, it's so, so badly signposted. After the initial section, I had no idea what to do or where to go and rolling wasn't enough to dodge the rocks.

No skill involved at all, Very, very frustrated right now,
For me, it wouldn't have been so bad as long as they didn't put a *long*, *UN-SKIPPABLE* cut-scene right after the last possible save point before a challenging sequence. That is a cardinal sin for any game design.

I dont mind a challenging boss fight, and enjoyed the sense of accomplishment when I beat the boss, but there's no excuse for an unskipable cut scene like that, that you have to sit through over and over. They should have known better.

Repeat after me, CDPR: Cut scenes should ALWAYS be skippable. ALWAYS. Especially the long ones. ESPECIALLY those that players are likely to see repeatedly.

Please don't spread lies. You can skip that cutscene. I just loaded that save to test it.

Right mouse button. Right mouse button. Pretty sure it skips every cutscene. It definitely skips the one you are claiming can't be skipped.
I just finished the fight after about 10 reloads, and I could skip the cutscene with RMB when I loaded up the autosave before combat. And yeah, the fight is annoying, basically I got one step further each reload, then died when I saw the next new thing and didn't react in time or got unlucky chain-hits from the tentacles. In the boulder throwing part, after dying a couple times running around confused, the last time I just hid behind a bridge fragment and googled what to do next with my phone.
revial: I think it is not true, the QTE cutscenes can not be skipped (but every other cutscene can be). I usually press left mouse button during the cutscenes to check if there will be any QTE:). Pretty handy, you will be prepared this way.

Please dont accuse me of lying. I mashed every conceivable button, from escape, to all 5 of my mouse buttons. I had to watch that stupid sequence ten times. I was *desperate* to not have to watch it again, so theres no way I didnt try every button I could possibly think of.

I'm willing to accept it may have been some sort of bug or hardware issue for me, as I have encountered other quest-breaking bugs, the same as other people have encountered hardware issues and quest breaking bugs. As an example, on occasion the number keys and ctrl-menu stop working to sheathe swords for me, and I have to meditate to put them away. So there may be another issue, but I am not lying about the frustration of having to watch that over and over, despite every logical attempt to avoid it.

yea you can skip the cutscenes, and this boss fight is very easy on hard setting. at the start of the fight roll left or right to dodge the two long tentacles, then you just have to line up under where the other 4 tentacles are, put the Yrden sign and wait for it to drop on you, you roll away then come back chop off the tentacles. and the QTEs are just left click right click and space.
You know what. Nevermind.

Agree, barring a major break through my game is done now at the first chapter and im feeling awfully cheated and ripped off to be honest!

I been trying for last 3 hours (on easy) to get past this thing and have no clue what im suppose to do after i kill 3 tenticales (if I can even get that far)

There is no patern or logic to the fight, you just drop the sign and hope it catchs a tenticale, which is far from a for sure thing!

Ive dropped a trap, had the tentical come straight down on top of me and sign trap (almost killing me) and tenticale just lift up like nothing afterwards, totally ignoreing the sign!

On the rare occation I get past the the 3 tenticals I have no idea what im suppose to do and quickly get squashed by flying stones and crashing tenticales. (back to the F**** Gotcha development where you have to fail to learn the encounter rather then give people the right info up front, so bored of that already)

I mean at start you couldnt shut that stupid (and totally useless) Sorceress up and now shes quiet and giveing you no clue what your suppose to do!

I HATE HATE HATE walk throughs and cheats but its pretty clear this is 100% a reaction encounter and silly me thought I was playing a RPG, not some F******** twitch game.

Am I bitter? Damn rights im bitter, I am being forced to cheat to stand even a chance at beating this boss on easy and if I find out it is a full reflex based encounter, im pretty much screwed and out $50.00 for nothing!

Very disappointed and discouraged with the over all combat in The Witcher 2 and feel they should have put a warning that we were getting a adult game with teen ager styled combat and bosses.

Ive studied this boss and there is NO WAY to predict where hes going to come down, basically you just flip and run around throwing random Y signs till one sticks, then you go hack off a limb!

After 3 limbs I have no clue what im suppose to do!

Ive tried dodgeing but thats impossible appearently so if I even retry tommorrow ill try running at mob when he goes into full on rage!

If that doesnt work, unless CDProjekt comes out with a patch that lets me bypass the boss, think im done and they have lost a customer who WANTED BADLY to beleive in them as a replacement developer for the now ran EA Bioware.

Its sad, I have far more disposible money then your average 20 year old but no one wants my money!

Bioware making twitch based linear games with a backstory now so wont buy from them (single player)
Obsidian made that TERRIBLE Alpha Protocol that (from what I read) ALOT of people got stuck on the starting computer puzzle and Obsidian basically said "to bad, we have your money already so were done"
And now CDProjekt making adult games for 15 year olds!

Very disappointed

PS: Id very much like a "skip encounter" option because unlike the poster above me, I been at it to long and when (if) I finally finishing it, I will NOT look back fondly. Honestly, I think you just killed any chance of me replaying game as the fustration just not worth it!

GAMES ARE SUPPOSE TO BE FUN!
I know I dont have reflexes of a 15 year old anymore! I dont need crappy game design to reinforce that fact!
When he starts throwing rocks at you, you climb up that collapsed ruin to the left and stab the sucker dead. I know you want to insult everyone who figured this out on their own, but I have a hard time drawing a correlation between kiddie console button mashing action gamers and a gamer who can take in the environment and understand what to do to get solve a problem. It really just sounds like you're ranting and raving.

Also, if you played on easy, there's no QTE in this fight, unless you count clicking your right mouse button while on the tentacle QTE (it's certainly not reflex based). I just did it on that setting to make absolutely sure.

And, as far as the whole can't dodge tentacles thing, that's pretty much BS too, since I just did it on easy without being hit at all. Keep moving at max range and they won't land on you since they obviously take into account where you are standing, then go whack at that point, and in the time between, if you're always moving, you'll no longer be there.

I realize it can be frustrating if you're having a hard time with something, but I seriously think you're making it out to be far harder than it is.

The tentacles take turns, the mid tentacles wont catch traps, but as long as you are positioned near the actual tentacles you need to catch, they will come down next.

At the rock throwing part it took me a couple of tries to figure out that you have to go to the left (broken bridge) and start running.

EDIT:Also what revial posted 1 min before me :P - max range on rage

There's some sort of a bug there.
I had to watch it several times, too, and when I started clicking with the right button (I think), the cutscene became unskippable (it flashed the "skip" icon, though). But if I left-clicked first, then right-click skipped the scene all right.

Left facing mob right?

Ive gone there, I got squashed!
I hid behind a portion of the bridge, I got squashed!

Ill try what you said (tommorrow, im way to angry and fustrated to attempt again today, 3 hours on one boss to much) and hope for best but im 90% sure ive tried to go there already!

PS: Oh for those argueing about scene skipping, your both right!

When you first hit the boss and die and reload last save, it will not let you skip the scene (I tried 4 or 5 times and then stupid thing wouldnt reload and stopped responding so I rebooted computer and suddenly I could skip past the cutscrene after that)

This game is BUGGY in areas!
If you click past the opening credits to fast when loading up, the game will crash!

I kinda had this issue with troll quest as well!
I DLd and installed Troll Quest, went to ALL THE HOUSES 3 times over and no Troll head on wall!

Exitted game, posted here as had no clue what to do
Got told to play dice
Reloaded and suddenly troll head was on wall hut!

For some strange reason it seems some content needs game to reload to work properly!

So anyways, thought id let you all know!

Yes! Yes! Thats exactly what happened. I would be pressing the mouse button in a vain attempt to skip it, and I thought I would see *some* sort of icon flash, but quickly disappear, and then I could not skip it no matter what I did.

Ok, so some sort of bug at work then. In which case I apologize for accusing CDPR of willfully committing such a heinous act. Im just mentally scarred from cut scene over exposure.
