Patch 1.3 broke the achievements and I was wondering if you guys are going to make a hotfix for that. I have put the game on hold for now but will continue if the achievements are left broken. I think a lot of people are waiting for an official word at least on Steam forums.

We are aware of this issue and are working on resolving it shortly.

We apologize for this error:(

I know how you guys feel since I love Xbox 360 achievements myself. I would be upset if that happened to the game I was currently playing.
is it possible to add the retail version under steam and have the achievements (once they're fixed :P)?

No. That's only possible with a handful of retail games. I guess, that's because there's hardly any reason for Valve to offer their services (downloading and auto-patching the game, achievements, etc) to people who didn't pay for it.

List of games that can be activated on Steam: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-wusf-3601

hm, harsh free market economy. thanks for the information, anyway.

Maybe I'll buy another copy on steam at the x-mas sale weeks. Until then all features should be implemented aswell.

Oh yes, please give me intrusive DRM, so I can participate in an online pissing contest!

Apologies for inappropriately jumping around.

Funnily, TW2 is on that list. I don't know if it was just added or if I was only looking for "The Witcher 2" rather than "Witcher 2" - but I just read about it in another thread. So, yeah, actually you CAN activate it on steam. Sorry, for misinformation.

It's there from 17-th June. But it have some exception.
Only Russian 1C boxed (retail) version can be activate on steam.
Rest tW2 retail version are not.

P.s. It's the feature which 1C took to care of for their customers. Because russian release of tW2 was the mot biggest fail in rus-game's industry due a protection code which wasn't working normally with tW2 itself.

didn't work in my case. The serial in the link you've posted demands 22 letters, while my retail code is only 20 letters. bummer!

See h0w1er's explanation. I didn't know about that and didn't expect different serials for different versions, so I thought all versions could be activated.
Can someone please explain to me the point of achievements? That's not even a rhetorical question. I'm legitimately curious as to why this matters to people.

I mean, if you only got them for doing significantly difficult things then I could see them being a badge of honor or something, but seriously... "Finish prologue," "Finish Chapter 1," and so on? It makes no sense to me. There are the more difficult ones, but the vast majority are things that you'd probably just stumble on anyway.

Well, I'm the man now. But all men were boys in way back.
Boy's life is always a competition with other kids in his block: kicking the arse, pissing on the wall (best kid hitting the highest point), to be most daredevil et cetera.
Boy became a man, but habbits are still the same. Just toys are more expensive.

So, if there an achivment system, hell yes! Why not to show your steam's friends that you can piss on the wall too and your stream is higher! ;-)

---

As for the developer point of view it's a best tracking system, to see how many users finished the game, and at which point of the game they stop to play, plus which extra thing they doing outside of storyline. So with this data they know exactly how to develop their next game with best "everyone loves this shit" shot, and not to repeat the same mistakes (which will lead us all to the CoD like games unfortunately).
