My laptop has a default resolution of 1600x900.And I heard people saying that changing the the resolution can increase your FPS/performance.Is that true?If it is should I change mine?
This question / problem has been solved by cjrgreenimage
1) Lowering the resolution will improve performance in most cases.

2) If your current performance is unsatisfactory, lower it and see if it's worth the trade-off from visual quality to performance.
Which lower resolution should be a good idea to try first since my screen is 1600x900?
I would recommend lower resolution as the last options, since it will look blury if not played at the screens default resolution.
have you tried tweaking the video options from the menu?

I did.

My computer configurations:
Intel core i7(8 cores) Q720 @1.6 Ghz 8
8G memory RAm
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730

My witcher 2 settings attached below...

PS:I get around 25 FPS with those settings...

Any tips then?

Is that a typo or does your CPU actually have a clock of 1.6 GHz?
If so, I'd say that's the bottleneck and lowering the resolution won't do any good.

My CPU had 1.6Ghz with Turbo boost up to 2.8 Ghz

Ps:i7 has 8 cores (4 physical)

It's 4 cores, able to work on 8 parallel threads - which doesn't affect (most) games.

The Turbo mode overclocks a single core by two "speed bins" to 2.8 GHz or two cores by one "speed bin" to (I'd guess) 2.2 GHz, or uses all four cores with 1.6 GHz, depending on how many threads an application uses. Since TW2 is (from what I heard) four-core-optimized, you most likely are stuck with a 1.6-GHz-Quadcore, which, I think, is too slow for TW2.

Is there anything else I can do about it.Maybe buy a new graphic card would help?

You can't buy a new video card for a laptop. Set everything to low or minimal setting. Disable Depth of Field all together and drop the resolution. If that doesn't make it run smoothly, nothing else I can think of :(.
P.S. Nice collection of games ;)

No, it won't. If your CPU can't handle the game, a new GPU won't change anything. Sorry. :-/
What do you get if you do knock the resolution down to 1280x720?

If that doesn't improve your 25 fps to better than 30 fps, then I'd suspect you are CPU-bound.

This game spawns a lot of threads, which may cause your Q920 to fail to go into turbo boost. I haven't seen this suggestion for TW2 yet, but it's been successful for some others:

With TW2 running, go into Task Manager, find the executable (witcher2.exe), right-click and choose "Set Affinity...", and deselect half of the cores. (I think you will see 8 cores; deselect all but CPUs 0, 1, 2, and 3.)
