When i finished the prologue i had a capacity of 300.
Was 250, and strong back gave me 300.

Ive read people on these forums stating they have 350 after the dungeon escape with the strong back perk.

And a guy on gamespot says he has a capacity of 450 and he never got the strong back perk.

So does anyone know why the numbers vary so much?

Do you get more carry capacity by doing the prologue over encumbered or something?

250 midway through chapter 1, sadly. I wish there weren't so many crafting items everywhere, since I find myself frequently having to throw away or sell items that I'm not sure are useful.
I have 265 and i'm on the 3 chapter with some of thee best gear and weapons i have seen so far,

Elder blood gauntlets.trousers,boots
Vrans Armour,
Caerme and Addan Deith

You don't realy need massive bags space anyway, you seel whatever you don't wair and unless your carrying a massive amout of crafting stuff then...well you shouldn't as you can find anything you need in the soroundings or buy it, you have enough gold.

I have only ever dropped or sold weapons minor crafting items and armour to keep me moving, it was all easy obtainale stuff or obsilite.

Exactly, i just got to chapt 1 and i was over encumbered several times in just the prologue since i'm not sure what will be useful and what isnt.

EXAMPLE: cloth - do i really need this much....well they give me a lot for a reason , so i must need it later, so i pick it up...LOL

Anyway, im curious how people are getting 300+ carry capacity by chapter 1.
Not killing La Vaylette at the prologue will give you the strong back perk of +50. I don't know if/how you can get further ranks of this perk. Some gear gives you +carry capacity - but usually you will replace this gear before long anyway. I found the weight limit extremely frustrating at times - this game badly needs some persistant storage spac. I sold stuff I could no longer get which was required for a quest in chapter 3.
[I had 305 by the end of chapter 1. It may be due to not killing LaVallette and mutagens.
I am not sure how I have gained the strength other than the obvious Strong back bonus.

My extra 5 lbs came from the gloves I had crafted.

I have 305, strong back and I'm assuming the +greater strength mutagen adds some even though it doesn't say so, because shortly after using one is when I noticed my capacity was higher.

I could be wrong though.

Really they should just give everyone the same amount, almost seems cruel that people have to suffer with ~250 considering how often I'm lugging around more than that.

You probably equipped the same gloves I did. I believe it was the long robust gloves that have a 5 lb. bonus attached.
After examining game files I found only the "Strong Back" ability and some equipment that increase your maximum carrying weight, and they always give the same bonuses.

Your base capacity is 250, The "Strong Back" increases it by 50 and equipment can add about 40 more, I think.

Of course, it is possible that the files differ between game versions, but I know that at least GOG and Polish retail have the same data.

Regarding the linked post on gamefaqs (http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/975399-the-witcher-2-assassins-of-kings/59167189?page=1), I think the guy is talking about how much his items' total weight was, not about his carrying capacity.

I'm the 900 lb gorilla use the mod!!
I used the weightless mod my last playthrough and had way too much Orens by the time I finished. :/

So, I think there's a reason why they have a carry capacity, no matter how annoying it seems.
