Hey guys. I've been at this since the release of the game and I'm at my wits end.

I have a Phenom 2 2.8, 4gb DDR3 1600, ATI 5770 512 DDR5, 650w Corsair PSU and I'm getting a horrible amount of lag. If I stay in one spot and spin the camera it's almost fine but as soon as I start moving and it starts lagging horribly. I've thought it might be because of the streaming textures so I went into the ini and changed the texture memory from 100 to 1000 and it doesn't make any difference. I've also lowered the texture sizes in half. Still, doesn't make much of a difference. I've even put the game at it's lowest preset, defragged my HDD, tried spoofing the card as a nvidia 465, triple buffering, REINSTALLING WINDOWS! None of it has help much. I'm about to rip out all of my hair. I sent a support request to CDR but they haven't responded. I have version 1.1 and my video driver is 11.5b. One curious thing is that my performance seems to WORSEN if I install the newest CAP.

Please, one of you computer geniuses, show me up. I love this game but can't stand to play it in it's current state.

A few of the settings are very taxing...have you tried tweaking? I get major improvements with everything maxed but SSAO, Motion Blur, Blur Effects, V Sync, and Uber Sampling disabled. Also on 5770, though a much better CPU (1055t X6)...the game apparently loves three or more cores, so that could be hurting you quite a bit.

CAP is only for Crossfire users.

CAP does contain certain tweaks usable for single card setups like Cat AI settings, from what I hear anyway. Also, I think you misunderstood about my CPU, it IS a quad core. And yes, I've tweaked it every which way including putting it on it's lowest settings. Something I forgot to mention.... I get a solid 30+ fps at all times when this lag is going on. So, my comp CAN handle it but there's something strange going on.

Hmm I thought I heard a bit about that too but figured I was mistaken. I only ever see releases notes mentioning Crossfire performance though so I assume the difference if any would be negligible.

Apologies, yes..I read Phenom II as X2 for some reason.

It might just be you have really high standards? Not that that's a bad thing..mine are pretty high as well and TW2 isn't running as smoothly as I'd like, but it's good enough..30-50fps with some stuttering in certain areas.
This sounds like the exact same issue I and others are having and [url=http://www.gog.com/en/forum/the_witcher_2/slight_stutter_hitch_with_vsync_enabled/page1]here. In a nutshell, smooth framerate but terrible stutter. It only occurred for me after applying the 1.1 patch, with the retail version.

There's some possible solutions in those threads, though none of them worked for me.

I love you. I saw these posts before and I TRIED the Dxtory, but I must have not done it right because now it works like a charm! Thank you so much! Maybe you should try it again? Use Dxtory, make sure you get the STABLE version and that .NET 4.0 is installed. When you boot it up, don't change ANY settings but the "video FPS" one. Set it to 30 then boot up the game with Dxtory in the background. You should see a FPS counter in the upper left hand corner of the screen. It should NEVER go above 30-31 fps. If it does, it's not working right.
Glad to hear it worked for you, no such luck here. I did find that capping it 30 using Dxtory or FPS Limiter helped a little in Chapter 1, but having I got to Chapter 2 today the stutter is so pronounced that nothing seems to get rid of it.

What are your system specs? Did you defrag the Witcher 2 game files? When's the last time you did a fresh Windows install? Etc etc. Give me all the details you can think of. I AM a computer tech. and web developer so I might be able to help.

My mouse doesnt work. Fix it.
C2D E8400 3ghz
9800 GTX+ 512mb
3gb RAM
Vista 32-bit

I defragmented the game files after reinstalling it today. I haven't reinstalled Windows on this system at all, since I only have the pre-installed OEM version.

I really wish there was a revert patch, since the installer (retail version) automatically downloads 1.1, which was the root of my problems.

A fresh Windows install would probably do you WONDERS especially since you've NEVER done it. You'd be surprised at the amount of junk that builds up. If you absolutely REFUSE to do that, look into 'finding' a copy of AVG PC Tuneup 2011. You can clean out a lot of stuff and it also has a bunch of tweaks and auto scans for problems and a bunch of other things. I don't know what I'd do without it. Play around with it, use all of it's features to get your comp in tip top shape or reinstall Windows (try to 'find' a copy of Win 7 x64, I'm sure you know where to look) and tell me if it helps at all.

You could probably disconnect from the internet and reinstall so it won't automatically patch.
Helped me to reinstall the game and not to patch to v1.1. You can keep the troll.dzip dlc in the coockepc folder and it works but not the other dlcs. But I don't care. My game runs really smoothly on v1.0.

What I did with retail version to play with v1.0:
- cap internet connection
- install the game
- apply day0 patch
- start launcher an enter my key
- reestablish internet connetion
- use gog exe instead of retail exe
- put troll.dzip back into its folder
Ok here is my rig an ASUS Gamers Nation Laptop. I7core 1.6ghz, 6 GIGs Ram DDR3, Win 7 64 Bit AMD 5870 1GHz RAM. I run this game at 1600x900 at High detail less SSAO and Motion Blur (it makes me dizzy to watch it haha). I have had ZERO issues with this game from the beginning.

BUT.....

Here's what I did to prior to installing.....

Update my VBIOS (issue with ASUS AMD video card GSOD) I installed latest AMD Notebook Drivers 11.5 and the 11.5b hotfix. Also updated my Creative EAX and XFI sound cards. Did a reg clean and defrag with WINFERNO. Aand BAM!!! Im crushing it.

This is a fairly decent laptop but by no means a top of the line one. Read up on your components and manufactures then hit the forums, someone has already had your problem and more than likely found a fix. ENJOY THE GAME IT ROCKS!!!!!
