Yennefer & Geralt relationship was always intense and... well, to be honest, passive-aggresive and makin' mayhem in each one's life, and Triss was Geralt's close friend and lover several times, so choosing between both ladies is a hard yet interesting idea. Why?


Yen's way older and more powerful even with amnesia, cheap narration tricks, as well as fussy and kinky (both definitions, really), arrogant and rather cold (Yen's damn cynic because she was a hunchback in chilldhood).

Triss was cheerful and lovely, always giggling or at least smiling, but lost some of these characteristics after Brenna. AND she's Geralt's lover in both TW games, as she always wanted.


That choice will be, like, epi... Nah, enormous. It will break the whole Canon, or twist it strangely. Hopin REDs will figure it out smoothly.

And that raises the question, are the Witcher games canon to the witcher books? Or are they their own canon?

They are their own canon. Sapkowski doesn't dislike them, but they're not his work. What he dislikes is the TV series, which tried to recreate his stories but didn't do it so well. It has its moments, though, and a few good cast members.

I just hope there's a choice. We've been spoiled by CDPR with these games where we always have a choice. And considering most of us didn't read the books, ending up with Yennefer in the 3rd game will really be disappointing considering Geralt has known Triss for 2 full games, and only a glimpse of Yennefer's story in the second.

Agreed, but I think there will be plenty of choices. Geralt and Dandelion have at least one conversation in TW2 in which Geralt says he'll decide what to do about Yennefer after he's found her. Triss is also mentioned as a choice still waiting to be made, so I think we're in the clear as far as having options in any future game. I know I said it earlier, but I would really love to see Triss have to make some tough choices, too. I liked playing her conversation through the megascope, and I'd like to see her get another shot at something like that, especially in a situation that concerns her so intimately.

Triss is a major choice for the whole friggin TW2. I don't think they can just discard her. However, if you decide not to go after Triss in ACt 3 what happen to her? DId the Nifgarrdian slice her to pieces? I went for her both playthrough since I can't live otherwise. She's just cute.

When i first played tw, i liked Triss a lot. Until i started searching to The Witcher wiki and books, found out about Yen, i kinda feel sorry for Yen lol, Triss now seems like a thieving rival haha, i still like Triss but im leaning more to yen now.

I hope they have Yen AND Triss as a main love interest in TW3 provided they have a shietload of content for Yen. Triss already has 2 games dedicated to her and Yen will lose out in terms of development/content/fans lol. Be good if Ciri joins in the fray too rofl...

I don't think it would be a hard choice for me, but I am sure as hell that most of the players - that haven't read the books yet - will lean more towards Triss. Frankly speaking, I always preferred Yennefer. Sure, she has her own flaws, but she loved Geralt and Ciri and was willing to go to great lenghts for both of them. She was determined and brave, even when surrounded by enemies, and she never betrayed her loved ones. I suppose most of people who commented in favor of Triss forgot about when Triss was confronted by Yennefer and asked for help for her old friend, Geralt and Ciri (Triss thought about herself as of her older sister), she cowardly refused. Keep in mind that Triss in the games is quite different than in the books: more cheeky, bald and not as naive and weak. I can more or less agree that this version of Triss is better suited for Geralt, but he chose Yennefer I am not going to change that.

As someone whos only experience of the characters and world is from the games, I don't feel that Yennefer has been dealt with anyway near the depth required to make her an interesting possibility. Random NPCs and Geralt himself seem to make a big deal about her, but I don't think this translates well to the player - why do I care? I think there will have to be some remarkable characterisation and storytelling in the DLC/next game to even make me consider dumping Triss for her (even then it would be unlikely :) ).

Personally, i hope for a big patch/DLC that will bring rest of Act3 along with 4th and 5th. I dont mind if CDP would have to cut half (if not all) of Act 3 ending just to take story further along with Yen ;]. Somehow i feel that TW2 is closer to the books than TW1 only by bringing Yen character to story.

Geralt's and Yennefer's fates were linked basically from their first encounter ("The Last Wish"). The power of predestination is one of the main things that drives the story in all the books in the series so it would be a pity if CDPR decided to just overlook this fact and present the gamers with a choice between Triss and Yennefer. Here is what I believe will happen in "The Witcher 3": (SPOILERS)

As we know, in "The Lady Of The Lake" Ciri found herself in a world inhabited by different elves who possessed the power to cross between dimensions (worlds, spheres) just as she did. They wanted her to beget a child from their king in order to prevent the ancient Prophecy of Ithlina from coming true but she escaped and they followed her in every world she visited. In "The Witcher 2" we learn that some weird elves kidnapped Yennefer and I believe that it is safe to assume that these are the same elves who hunted Ciri. Knowing how much Ciri loves Geralt and Yennefer I think that the elves wanted to use them to lure the girl. Basically "The Witcher 3" will introduce Ciri into the storyline and will consist of Geralt recovering his memories and finding Yennefer. If the player be presented with a choice between Yen and Triss there should be tragic consequences for choosing Triss since Destiny is not something one can play with in the world of "The Witcher".

The one thing the Wild Hunt kept asking Geralt in Witcher 1 was whether he believed in fate. I'm an atheist, and I decided to make Geralt the same, so I kept saying fate didn't exist. In the end, I killed the wraith and didn't allow him to take the soul of the Grand Master.

Maybe predestination is real in the world of The Witcher, and all my beliefs will be proven wrong when Geralt catches up with Yennefer. I'm looking forward to it.

It be true to the lore of TW if they had dire consequences for choosing Triss, though many players will rage lol. So i will assume in TW3 or 4 there will prolly be good endings for both Triss and Yen, to make things fair.

If there is TW 4, i have a feeling it might end up having a 3 way divergence. Triss, Yen and Ciri. TW 3 dedicated to Yen, TW 4 to Ciri. And the ending Geralt has to choose between loving his destined Sorceress Yennefer, finding a new love in Triss or putting both love of his life aside to save his daughter. Essentially the themes are: Remembering the past(Yennefer), Pushing towards the Future(Triss) or Sacrifice(Ciri).

Lol, i might be thinking too much since whats mentioned above is so similar to a visual novel i played a few years back: Fate/Stay Night.

I have never read any of the books so all of the references to Ciri and Yennefer were lost on me.

So if in fact TW3 does involve finding Yennefer where you would expect to make a choice between her and Triss, I imagine some misfortune will come to one of them to avoid the choice altogether as everyone unfamiliar with the novels will lean towards Triss.

As an English-speaker who's only read The Last Wish and some fan translations from Sword of Destiny, I was wondering if any Polish speakers could fill me in on how Geralt's and Yen's destinies are tied together. You know they are tied together at the end of The Last Wish, but it never really goes into exactly how haha :)
