I'm posting this to report a possible bug. Keep in mind, this may have spoilers to a minor secondary quest in Blood and Wine.

I'm loving the Blood and Wine expansion just as much as I love The Witcher 3. However, after coming across what I would consider one of my favorite quests so far in the game, I may have come across a bug in A Knight's Tales, with the conversation with the Witch of the Lynx Crag.

I actually re-loaded a save on this quest twice after doing what I consider to be two 'fail' paths. Both of my seemingly available choices seem to give me somewhat bad endings and I was bewildered by this. So I looked online to see if there was anyone else commenting on this, or perhaps guides online that state the best approach to the quest.

I found guides on IGN, Gamefaqs, and a couple of other sites that say there is a third option. However, I do not have that option. Also, I looked on YouTube gameplay videos, watching other players tackle this quest only to find that they also do not have this third 'success' option for the quest and are left with the same problem as I.

I've attached a screenshot of the conversation that I believe should have another option for our conversation with the Witch. (Note: If I choose the third option which questions the Witch about Sir Gareth, it does not change these 3 options. I still can only choose between "Can lift the curse myself." and "Lift the curse, or else.")

Reading guides online leads me to believe that we should be able to request her help, which will then have her give you a task to complete - empty the cave underneath her hut. And this will lead you to the remains of Sir Gareth, which you can then take back to the bleeding tree, rather than taking the kerchief or initiating combat with the Witch.

Why don't I see this option? Why haven't I seen anyone else get this option? Is this a bug or is there something in the quest I'm not doing?

There should be a book or something in the witch's house that explains that the knight was too proud to humbly ask for help, that is the trigger you need. Try picking up everything marked by witcher senses before checking the besr skin in the back (that triggers the cutscene with the witch).

I actually reloaded my game after posting this and tried something I thought I already did. I THINK the only thing I did different was I looked at the book the Quest Giver gave me at the beginning of the quest. I thought I had already read that, but I made sure to click it and scrolled through it a few times.

After that, the conversation with the Witch gave me that third option.

Strange, I swear I looked through that book. Perhaps I loaded a save that undid my read-through.

The clarify for anyone else that may read this forum post, the book I'm talking about is the book of Tales that you receive from the NPC that posted the quest on the bulletin board. Make sure you read that before you have your conversation with the Witch.

Thanks, @Johnbrownxr20.

There is actually one other way to complete the quest, if you search the cave before going up to the hut (i did on accident) or after leaving(as long as you decide to figure it out on your own), you can pick up the knights remains and Geralt acknowledges that it can be used to lift the curse along side with the handkerchief, without learning to from the witch. You complete the quest by sending the spirit off in peace and you don't give the witch a lock of your hair.

Yes, I tried to do it this way. But since Gareth's remains is way up high, I never looked up there. So I completely missed it.
Now that you mention it, I think reading the fairy tale book that the NPC gives you probably is exactly what you need. I can't check for myself as all my saves close to that point in time are already overwritten. I do remember that I tried to look for the book after I started the quest, but didn't see it with a star marking for some reason. When I went into the witch's hut, I read one of her books with the "read books upon picking them up" feature added in the recent patch, and the fairy tale book was available to me that way (all unread books should pop up when you find a new one), probably why I confused them.
