Ok folks I'm going through valen and I've come across only two supposed Alchemy vendors so far.One who's name is Keira which is part of a quest and I couldn't get a convo line to buy from her at all. And the other is South of Heatherton and S.E. of an Isolated shack where there is a werewolf I need to take out. This one is locked and I can't get into it not mater what time of day it is. So how in the world are we suppose to buy alchemy stuff like recipes and ingridents if the shops are locked or won't offer to sell?!

Also anyone come across receipes for repair kits for armor or weapons? The higher ones the better would be appreciated.

You don't have to use the shops in Velen, try having a walk around exploring the map & finding villages or take a trip to one of the citys Novigrad, Oxenfurt.

I also found it difficult to find things, but for me it was blacksmiths.
Just explore every village around and eventually you'll find what you want.

Misc shops (the coin pouch icon) also has some alchemy ingredients... even blacksmiths have certain ones. ;-)

@ mepe_ruse and ast486 well now will have to admit that I've been walking around and have in fract encountered allot of quest. most of which I can not do because they are at least 4 levels or higher then what I currently am. The ones for which do come across that I can do I've pretty much doing them. If there is a ? mark I check it out and see if I can bring it down.<LOL> I did find the map marker for I believe it was Novagrad<sp> but didn't explore it I think I will go back and check it out and visit just the shops. As currently I've got more quest then I know what to do with right now and I'm trying not to take on any more til I can clear these up. Or at least some of them. Thanks again for the replies and I'm off to do some shopping.

Don't let the level recommendation stop you. You can actually do these quests you know. Unless it's a contract quest, go for it.

I just do ones that are green, in order from lowest to highest, ignoring the red ones till later.

Well yes I've been working on the ones for which which are green. And if I come across one for which I can't finish do to the monsters being to hard I can come back. Unless it's one like wandering in the dark. As I had no oil or bombs to help with the Nitera<sp> guy at the end and my equpmet sucked. Going up in levelss is BS in this game as you get a very small handful of xp for things for which you do kill. And I've been to allot of the shops ion Valen and Movigrad and they don't carry nothing but garbage for the most part. Most don't even carry any weaporn or armor repair kitgs Or any receipes for anything. which don't help at all.

If you've gone through the through the quest with the witch (lodge sorcerous) it should no longer be hard.
Btw just goto every town and read the notice boards.
I'm still drowning in quests and I've been doing them for days now! :-)
The absolute best place to buy herbs and schematics in Valen is in a hut that is a little NE of Oxenfurt. Ouside of the guy on Skielleg he's the highest rated one.

@Goodmongo thanks for the info on the one N.E of Oxenfurt don't think I found that one yet. I'm going to go back in and check that area out.

@ast486 are you talking about the quest Wandering in the Dark? where you've got to take on the guy from the wild hunt? If so I loaded an earlier save cause the weapon for which I had wouldn't even take down any of his hp and I was level 7 and its suppose to be level 6 quest.

Yes. After that whole thing is when you are at the right level for doing the rest of the quests in the landscape around there.
Until I finished that line of them, I found it near impossible to do most of the other quests.
The locked house south of Heatherton belongs to an NPC who is involved in the Baron and Keira plotlines. You'll meet them several times and get a discount once everything has been dealt with.

Keira also sells some things once you've completed Wandering in the Dark, IIRC, but she will become unavailable once her plotline is finished.

In addition to the hut NE of Oxenfurt, there are a few herbalist vendors in Novigrad; you can visit the city at any point, though you might need a pass to use some (not all) routes there.

The various hidden treasure sites scattered around the map often have an alchemy or crafting recipe of some sort, so they're worth checking out too. Even if the monster that usually guards the site is too high level to deal with, you can sometimes bait it away and get it chasing after your horse while you circle around and loot the stuff.
I just found a halfling herbalist (no name) in eastern Velen in the middle of nowhere, isolated, not near anything. On the map there's no question mark, no town, just a small brown square indicating the house with a few walls outside. He has a bunch of recipes for potions, bombs, decoctions, etc. and ingredients. This would be east of Oxenfurt, and I think south-ish of Vernon Roche's camp. Sorry I can't be more specific.

Now that I've been ablee to explore the Novagard<sp> area I am finding more and more herbalist. Now does anyone know if the items for which they sell are constant? I.e. the same all the time or do they change? As there are some ingridents for which I'm having a hard time finding. One is powdered monster something or other needed to make the first set of Griffon gauntlets.

Also has anyone found any of the schematics<diagrams> for making the the armor and weapon repair kits? if so do you remember where you found them at?
I've found the apprentice and journeyman kit recipes but I don't remember where - some of them might have been on Skellige.

As for the materials, some of them can only be obtained by dismantling others. Powdered monster tissue is one of those.
