Hey guys, I've got an issue with W3. I was able to play the game just fine a few months ago when the game came out, but now it's freezing up every few seconds and it is getting really frustrating to enjoy this amazing game. :(

I made a video to show exactly what is happening. It freezes temporarily about 5 times in 5 minutes of playing. Generally my game runs at about 30fps on high settings, but the video capture software caused the frames to take a hit. Can anyone help me figure this out?

I've tried cranking graphics as low as possible, reinstalling the game, and playing the game off my secondary hdd. Nothing has worked yet.

Specs:
500W PSU
AMD Athlon x3 3.3ghz 455
8GB G. Skill Ripjaws
ATI Radeon 6950 2GB

aBabyPenguin: ATI Radeon 6950 2GB
Your graphics card is way below specs, that's why you are having freeze ups:

Minimum system requirements - Windows:
Graphics: Nvidia GPU GeForce GTX 660 / AMD GPU Radeon HD 7870

Thanks for the response. I had considered upgrading, or crossfiring another 6950, but I want to be sure I'm buying the right hardware that will fix my problem. I think it's weird that my fps is fine, but I get these sporadic freezing spikes.

The freezing spikes are down to your GPU not being able to keep up with what's required graphically. I run dual GTX580s in SLI, and can only afford to run on 'high'. The graphics requirements of TW3 are very high.
Got it. I guess I'll enjoy The Witcher 2 some more until I can scrounge enough money for a new card. Thanks, friend.

The card is fine to play on Medium~High at 30~40FPS, the bottleneck is your CPU.

Try this, http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/104/?

I think the problem is somewhere else. I would wait until the next patch which will drop in the next 2 weeks. Maybe that changes things for you.

I played and finished the Witcher 3 with an AMD Radeon 6850 with 1 GB VRAM - no problems. Which is even slower than your card. I bought a new card since then for my second playthrough, but I'm still amazed how well the Witcher 3 runs even on hardware that is way below it's minimum system requirements!
Thanks for the advice, Kobi. I tried the DLLs, but they didn't fix the problem I am having. I'm still getting the same results.

Yeah, a patch with some optimizations/bug fixes might be what I need. I'll keep hoping things get better, because the game is insufferable at the moment and I won't be able to afford an upgrade for months.
Hey guys! I just wanted to follow up since I fixed my issues with the game. :)

I used ASUS TurboV EVO Auto Tuning to overclock my CPU from 3.3GHz to about 3.56GHz. I've heard using software to OC is less stable than using the BIOS, and I am watching my temps, but after 2 days everything is running great!

Since the OC, the game hasn't locked up once. Although my FPS is about 5 frames lower than before for some reason. Honestly though, it doesn't bother me because the game is finally playable again! Thanks to everyone who gave me advice.

Disclaimer to anyone who has the same issue I had. Be smart about overclocking, you don't wanna fry your PC.

I told you it was the CPU, have fun.
