Hi is there any mods yet that can fix the horrible combat and the way geralt controls in this game.
I just finished witcher 2 today then started playing wither 3 tonight and for me the controls and combat are inferior to the witcher 2 . Why cant i turn away in combat even when i don't lock on.The contols in witcher 2 were much tighter and far better.I like the story and everything but this has ruined a great game.
Is there a mod yet or can this even be fixed by a mod any help please.
For turning away, hold the Sprint key and you can certainly run away.

Presumably a total combat overhaul will be released at some point months to years from now, as was the case with w1 and w2.

(Heartily disagree btw - I found combat to be much improved in w3 than w2.)

I agree that W2 had better combat controls (and combat in general) than W3. In particular, I found the camera control was better in W2 and was more zoomed out so you could survey the battlefield better and not get hit in the back as often. I found the controls less responsive in W3 than in W2 and I missed being able to steer my rolls. You can improve the responsiveness somewhat by enabling hardware cursor. There's still a bit of a delay between entering a command and Geralt reacting but it's much better than the default controls. The target selection is a little screwed up in W3 as well.

On the other hand, I do like having a short roll (dodge) and a long roll for positioning purposes. It's also nice that you don't have unlock basic combat moves to make Geralt effective. As I recall, W2 was hard until level 10 or so, because you were unlocking his combat moves so that he could react in combat. There aren't really any abilities that really change Geralt's survivability in W3, the closest would be the ablity that prevents you from taking damage while dodging, the alternate Quen, Whirl and Rend and none of them are game changers the way some of the abilities in W2 were.

I agree. The combat controls need to be better as do the navigation controls. They could do worst than make these like the AC4 + combat and navigation controls IMHO.
Welcome to the club, pal. :) I already told everything I thought about combat in W3 in my nitpicking thread, not sure I want to go through that again.
So far I know nothing of combat improving mod, and I haven't heard anything from devs. I have regular arguments with my friends, who either playing on consoles or playing on PC with gamepad, that controls "aren't that bad", and "there is no input lag" (though some agree there is input lag), but I see what I see. At the end, I even reduced difficulty to lowest because ordinary fights were just too annoying. And same.
I'm a bit envious for those who enjoy new combat system, really, after nearly 200 hours spent in game, I want I'd be able to enjoy combat. Alas, woe, woe. /grin
I agree!

A lack of appropriate feedback in the combat system, the management of the movements of Geralt (and horse) are often impractical and also difficult to control in most areas.
Often Geralt clumsily slams to right and left, specially indoor, and the fixed camera not help! Sometimes gets stuck in the first fence, tree or stairs. He's also hard to easily stop wherever you want.

In the end, If at all this, we add the stuttering and various bugs.....simply becomes dull and irritating!
ok i sure someone will make a control combat mod overhaul in future let me say i really do like the game its really good just the controls let it down in a big way for me on mouse and keyboard. What i did was toggle geralt to walk all the time and press shift to run that makes it a bit betterThe more i am playing the more i getting used to it but it still feels not good.Eldaz is right it is exactly like assassins creed controls.
I will try some of the tips everyone has mentioned.

First problem is input lag. It alone makes precision impossible, because you can't say whether your click was registered by game or not. Given huge problems with positioning and interaction, and that most combats being "two fast clicks" oriented, it all makes fighting quite frustrating.
When you need to position Geralt properly to interact with specific object (loot container, activate something, or talk to someone), simply turning Geralt towards something is a problem - game has zero reaction on quick tap on movement key. You have to hold it. And if you hold it too long, Geralt will start moving that direction. You were watching abyss? Hey, hello ground, long time no see!
On keyboards we have only 8 possible directions, available through keys. For more precision we have to adjust direction with mouse. Given narrow and non-adjustable field of view, plus glitches in lock-on function, this makes precision-required dodging into mouse jerk-fest. No, I don't have motion sickness, but I sick from doing that.
I know, I'm exaggerating a bit, but most enemies should be fought with "double-tap" approach, because third attack will be interrupted somehow. So we have to do two fast attacks, then dodge, or roll. Then two fast attacks again, then roll away again. This is some kind of rolling woody woodpecker simulator. Or rolling bomberman, if you don't like to keep things up close and personal, as many enemies, especially on higher difficulties, kill Geralt too fast (and I don't mind that, mutant or not, he is still human). So, even if you don't use signs and alchemy (I wonder when someone will beat Witcher 3 on highest difficulty using wheel), battles still feel the same, monotone, dull, boring. Game about best swordsman of North has boring fights. I'm PC gamer, I don't care for "wow-factor", I want consistent, enjoyable, comfortable controls and gameplay.
In addition, game has tonnes of micromanagement - oils and potions before fight, bombs and signs during the fight, no more than two consecutive attacks, fight after fight, hour after hour. Because of new, short potions' duration, and limited supply of potions and bombs, you have to pause to meditate frequently. No macros, no way to autodilute potions while on the go, since you can meditate for a minute and still replenish them. Those are not the droids I've been looking for.
To each his own, of course.
