Never heard of anyone using ESDF before, out of general curiosity what are the advantages of using ESDF over WASD?
avatar
Goodmongo: I support key binding. But ESDF compared to WASD??? I mean they are just one single key over.

Now if you changed it to the num key pad for lefties or had some other big change that I can understand. But moving to the right one key? I don't understand why.
It is because ESDF players are used to typing and you will naturally keep returning the home key position, which is esdf. It causes you to hit the wrong keys, because you remember all the keys by letter and position.

If you type, it is the natural home key position. You are able to find it in the dark and can then hotkey over half your keyboard with ease. You will keep returning to ESDF or hit the wrong keys when using WASD.

Let me add my voice to this call. Not being able to map certain keys kills the game. I've tried editing the input.settings file, but it doesn't seem to make any difference for certain keys (maybe I'm missing something, but I tried swapping the multiple instances of IK_M and IK_N and the controls in game didn't change).

In my case, I use a Wolf King keyboard, so I like to use O, B, ,, ., = and - for common actions. Can I remap them? Can I buggery.

Please patch this. If I had to rate this game now, I'd give it 0 out of 10 simply because it isn't playable. I don't care about the story, the graphics or the gameplay if the control system is a mess!

Pretty much the same for me.

I cannot appreciate any of the game if I cannot get the basic interaction - which is MOVEMENT - to work properly.
If the movement is awkward, cumbersome or plain not working, there is no immersion, and no enjoyment of all the other stuff. This is basics, it has to work before the other parts can do their magic.

Just tried using esdf, had to slide my keyboard across an inch to settle my finger position better but transitioning between E and D feels a lot smoother than W and D

BladeFireLight: when in the menu it keeps popping up. "keyboard and mouse detected". over and over. but never switched over to keyboard. I don't even have a controller. I did buy a PC game after all.

also why is there no re-binding of the movement keys. Not everyone is a WASD player.

I have had to search the Input.setitngs file an manually. It's a long are difficult process trying to figure out what is missing.
This is unbelievable. I'm not a WASD player myself.

More and more happy that I canceled my preorder some time ago.

I'm sorry, but you have no idea how big a deal this really is. You really don't. It's not "a single key over".
It is absolutely unplayable for ESDF users.

Home key position + a lot more keys around the hand. It was especially useful in the Quake/Quake 2/Unreal era, for pro or semi-pro playing. I still have my old Q2 configs where every single key in the keyboard was bound to something (and then key combinations too), so I really needed all the keys around my hand.

Once you go ESDF, you can't go back.

Being this so important to you, have you tried autohotkey???

(This binds every key on your keyboard to anything you want, so you can use ESDF over WASD or whatever you like, and you can turn it on/off with a click or key combo).

Anyway, probably they release a patch soon allowing full key remapping.

bastarddk: Omfg, to be honest, they way the keybinding is handled is super primitive. I am left handed and use numpad for movement, but ofc that is not possible in this game.

Controls make or break a game.

Medwynd: Lol, you give left handed people a bad name by implying we aren't capable of evolving to using wasd and mouse on the right.
Don't be retarded.

One of the perks with PC gaming is the ability to rebind your keys. It is even super simple to actually code. Your complete blind fanboy trolling gives you a bad name.
They should patch this quickly! I use z(y)ghj as it offers plenty of keys for the left finger. wasd is ...

I never said it wasn't a problem or shouldn't be patched in. It certainly isn't able to be worked around in the meantime until it gets patched in.

It never got patched in TW2.

I created a autohotkey script. That is not possible this time, as some of the arrow keys (thumb keys for me) are used.
Ill create a small winform application to edit the config file, when I have time.
Just a warning about AutoHotKey - I found that some "anti-cheat" software (xigncode in my case) actively scans for it being installed and will kick (maybe even ban, I do hope not) you from other games.
