Can someone start a new game, skip the tutorial, kill the ghouls, gallop towards the ransacked village but instead steer off the road, go to the guarded treasure on the beach and check the drops in those two chests for me please? Can be any difficulty level, would appreciate if someone done it on 1.04 or 1.03 if you have that installed.

Purely for research purposes about the loot system, as I kept notes of certain drops when I started the game, and upon starting a new game, they are not in the same chest BUT the new loot table is exactly the same upon starting new games in 1.05.

Thanks a bunch.

By my understanding loot is almost completely randomized. Chests should contain different items on seperate playthroughs.

Can't personally confirm this as I'm on my first playthrough, but the fact that loot is randomized has been all over this forum.

I just confirmed it myself that the loot is not randomized on separate playthroughs, I got the exact same loot from the same six chests in four new games.

The reason I posted this is to check whether the loot table is randomized upon install or patching.

EDIT: just tested it with the a clean install and 1.02 patch, I still get the same loot. Same on 1.03, no relation to version by the looks of it. Would be great if someone ran a test on their PC in 1.05.

I think some chests contain randomized stuff, but others are static.

I've reloaded saves where I opened the same chests multiple times that had the exact same loot in them. Sometimes it does change though.

I think it depends on what kind of chest you are opening. I haven't tested this recently so maybe its a bug with one of the newer patches, or they toned down the randomization of loot a lot.

The thing is I went through multiple chests on separate playthroughs on all the different versions of the game and they always show the exact same loot (although I only tried this in White Orchard so far). One thing to try is opening them after reaching a certain level.

I think they do definitely change based on what level you are. It seems like the loot is definitely scaling with player level to some degree.

A friend of mine said he reloaded a save over and over to check out the loot in a chest and he said the levels of the loot were changing. Maybe what's inside the chests doesn't actually change but the levels of the items do or something.

This was back in 1.02 though.

I tried it in 1.02, 1.03, 1.04 and 1.05, loot doesn't change, but I just tried to access the same chest while being different level and it DID change, not the diagrams, only alchemy-related manuscripts. Weird for sure.
I just ran some experiments and it looks like loot from chests are definitely set based on your level. Perfect place to check this is the riverside in White Orchard, there are four chests along the river you get Buckthorn from. Starting from the fisherman in a boat next to the pier and going to the north till the bridge where drowners defend a locked chest, you get the exact same loot even on separate playthroughs based on your level.

Chest 1, next to the fisherman:

Level 1 - random oren, 1x elemental essence, 1x pure silver, Diagram: Exploding Bolt, Noonwraith Decotion

Level 2 - random oren, 1x elemental essence, 1x pure silver, Diagram: Exploding Bolt, Basilisk Decotion

Level 3 - random oren, 1x elemental essence, 1x pure silver, Diagram: Temerian Poniard, Leshen Decotion

Level 35 - random orens, hardened leather, alchemist powder, 4-6 crowns

You will find 2-3 crowns on the very end of the loot list if you already have said recipe (easy to test, same spot, level 1, chest No1 and No3 both contains an Exploding bolt diagram, taking one of them will result in you looting 2-3 crows from the other chest)

You can loot oil and potion manuscripts the same way but certain enhanced or superior versions are level locked. I guess this is one of those things you cannot mod either, so I think I'll focus on getting useful advice in my guide as opposed to exact recipe locations as loot.
