So I got witcher 3 from GOG. And I decided an update from Windows 7 to Windows 10 is necessary. I scoured through the Documents folder to search for my Witcher 3 save. And it wasn't there?! So I proceeded with the clean installation since I thought the game save was saved in my External Hard Disk. Since I installed witcher 3 in my external hard disk. But after all of the windows installation, I booted up Witcher 3 from my .exe file in my hard disk and BOOM, GONE. New game and no save file?

Please help I invested tons of hours in this game, I'm using a file recovery software, so the name of the Save File alone can help alot. Please help me!! If there are any other possible save locations or recovery methods.

Save files are kept in your Windows Documents folder, so since you upgraded from one version of Windows to another your documents folder and anything in it will have been overwritten, unless you specifically backed them up. With a Windows upgrade being a massive files switching process it is unlikely that any file recovery will help you as they will have been overwritten.
I actually found some of the save files. And used Recuva to recover them. They are though not in the Documents folder, and instead hidden away in some obscure User and System folders which is weird
