So the Nvidia bonus Witcher 3 has to be downloaded from GOG? I can't "convert" this into a Steam game code? Thank you.

Why would you willingly lock yourself behind DRM when you got DRM-free game?

No, you can not. What's the problem with that? You can always use the "Add a Non-Steam Game" option.

How does a DRM-free game benefit me versus Steam?

I like to have all my games under one roof, one login. So far I was able to do just that. I never used Origin and all my freebies came with Steam keys. This is a little disappointing.

With gog version you do not need to keep a game under a "login". That's the point. Just download installer and it will work fine without GOG Galaxy and without you GOG account. You just won't have achievements/community features of gog galaxy in game as far as I understand. Then add it to your steam client as a non-steam game. It will not auto-update and you won't have steam achievements, but it will work.

It's not like Origin, where you can only play a game with Origin client online and not like Steam, where you need to run Steam client and login at least once on PC to verify your account and always have it run in the background.

I never see a person's issue with steam or digital DRM, i mean most people have broadband now-a-days, i can understand limited installations, like what Mass Effect had when it was released, that was a very bad protection and they removed it, when it needs to be online only, then i honestly don't have an issue with it.

I think its most likely older gamers who can't handle change and complain about it, like some friends of mine, if a game's controls can't be defined EXACTLY how he likes it, then its automatically a crap game and is blacklisted, they don't learn a new way of controlling the game, they just moan and uninstall the game.

I will tell you, what i tell them......adapt.

I think it's not the case here. The point is to have freedom to use what you've purchased any time without any limitations. If people didn't like freedom and it was ok for them to "adapt" as you put it there would've never been such places like TPB. GOG gives you opportunity to have this freedom legitimately. And in case of Steam almighty Gabe can disconnect everyone with one click without prior notice and no one will be able to do anything with that. But you will be ok, you will adapt!

Just for clarification. Steam used to be the main game platform for me, and even now I sometimes can play a game or two on Steam. I don't consider Steam to be evil, I just accept the limitations that goes with it and dislike many of its "features".

If DRM equals DRM-free for you, then it does not.

TBreaker20 has a point. If you follow his advice, you will have all your games under one roof.

If I hack your Steam account, you will lose ALL your games. I'd like to see how you adapt to that...
And I can tell you that Steam support in such cases is absolutely atrocious. I've been through it.
I understand people's anti-DRM sentiments but I never had a problem with Steam, not even once. And I've been using Steam pretty much from its early days. I only game on a dedicated PC, my other computers are not capable of running games, so I don't care about being able to play anywhere I want and I still could with Steam if I wanted to. I do not care about Steam client running in the background. PCs are powerful enough to handle a couple of extra tasks.

Some people's anti-DRM posts border on silly though. Selling soul to the devil? ROFLMAO? Get your tinfoil hats on! and watch out for the Illuminati!

With Steam I have all installers in one place, all games are kept automatically up to date, Direct X binaries are compartmentalized which drastically lowers conflicts and incompatibilities (there are something like 50 d3dx9 DLLs out there) many games save their setting to the Steam Cloud which is very convenient, I get game statistics, and minor goodies like overlay framerate counter.

With two-factor (email) authentication Steam account is not as easy to hack. I know a person whose account was broken into and he got it back without much fuss by simply verifying his address, email and credit card information.

Most anti-Steam arguments are completely invalid.

Anyway, whatever. I'm actually going to buy Witcher 3 on Steam because that's the way I want it and you guys hold on to your tinfoil hats. They're coming to get ya!

Edit

I forgot about one cool Steam feature. If you install Steam and its games on another hard drive and you have to, for some reason, wipe your C drive and reinstall Windows, just install Steam in the same directory and all your games will still work without having to spend hours reinstalling them.

Aren't you the one who just a few posts back spoke of 'adapting'?
Yet here you are, buying a second copy of a game you already own just so you won't have to 'adapt'.

Edit: Woops, just realized OP wasn't the one I was referring to. The avatar color threw me off there. Apologies.

The presence of irony is strong now.

But it's the first I've seen someone using the idiocy of downloading the redist files for every single game (mandatory that is) as something positive that Steam possess.
Who? Me? No, I didn't say anything about adapting.

"Idiocy" is not understanding why the files are being downloaded for each game and criticizing others who like that feature. Simple googling should enlighten you (there was actually a clear hint in my post which somehow you missed despite your self-perceived brilliance) but I'm sure you prefer to remain as you are, basking in your blissful ignorance so you can feel good about yourself:)

And no, I didn't say anything about adapting. I'm sure someone as smart as you could have hit Ctrl-F and look for the word "adapt" on the page and find who posted that, but again that would pop your blissful ignorance bubble that is so comfortable.

Anyway, this is too much already, I just asked a simple question. Life is about choices. Do whatever pleases you. But don't give up the tinfoil hat, ha ha! Cheers all! I'm outta here.
