:/ are u sure when you click to install its pointing to the right directory? for me it automatically pointed to the folder where i installed the witcher 3, maybe you installed it somewhere else or its not finding it, thats all i can think of
Create:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\GOG.com\Games\1207664643
Then, inside that, create the record PATH and set the value to your installation folder, in my case: D:\GOG Games\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt .

After that, install the patch

Yep - downloaded again; now have the *.bin files - patch appears to be working: 'currently installing'
It appears if you try and manually patch using the binary at play.thewitcher.com, its looking for the *.bin files:

setup_the_witcher_3_wild_hunt_2.0.0.28-1.bin
setup_the_witcher_3_wild_hunt_2.0.0.28-2.bin
setup_the_witcher_3_wild_hunt_2.0.0.28-3.bin
setup_the_witcher_3_wild_hunt_2.0.0.28-4.bin
setup_the_witcher_3_wild_hunt_2.0.0.28-5.bin
setup_the_witcher_3_wild_hunt_2.0.0.28-6.bin
setup_the_witcher_3_wild_hunt_2.0.0.28.exe

If you pre-downloaded with Galaxy, as I did, it extracts the contents, so no bin files.

re-downloading resolved the issue.. -even though Galaxy is *still* displaying 'Waiting for release'.

This fixed it for me. Along with editing all the other paths in there that pointed to C:\GoG Games and changing them all to E: where I had installed it.
GoG Galaxy still says "Waiting for release" but I can launch the EXE from the installation folder now.

That's weird... if you pre-loaded the game via Galaxy, it should auto-update and automatically download the patch: it did so when I started Galaxy this morning to play...
I'm having the same issue with my store bought copy of the witcher 3, I'm manually patching now to see if that works.

As an introduction to GOG its a bad start, it reminded me of my encounters with Uplay.. :(

edit: yes patching to 1.01 from 'play dot thewitcher dot com' works perfectly (I'm not allowed to post links, i assume because i am new)

I had this same problem until I found this thread today.

I needed to do the registry editing in order for the patch to work. Even though among my many attempted fixes was manually asking it to scan the correct folder (where it was correctly identified).

While I'm eagerly anticipating a Steam style alternative (sans DRM) Galaxy is very rough around the edges. It definitely will need a slew of features for troubleshooting and making backups that don't depend on downloading (24 gigs was quite enough the one time at "1.5" mbps let alone the many times I tried to download the patch).
