Capture the castle. I have been watching a video and would like to know why Geralt glows yellow every time he strikes
with his sword and at times is encased in a glowing ball. I have never experienced this previously in the game.
Glowing ball is Quen. You can get it by selecting quen en than keep the q pressed (on pc).
Not sure if you need to have 1 of the quen stages activated in the character sheet.

The Quen shield is the alternative Quen mode.
Do these visual effects to Geralt actually increase his fighting strengths and defense?
Normal Quen will not, but the alternate mode will protect you fully (and hits will heal you while it is active).

However, I think I know what you are looking for when speaking of this "glow". There is a quest in Blood and Wine which will award you the silver sword "Aerondight" (Yes - the one from The Witcher). This sword will generate charges when you kill monsters without taking damage. I think this is the visual effect you are thinking of, but I could be wrong.
Yes, I think that is correct - you are seeing a combination of the Aerondight sword glowing and the Alt-Quen shield.
Aerondight is for fighting monsters, so it's unlikely to be it.

Would help if the OP would post a link to the video he refer to.

I sold my Aerondight as its specs did not match what I had.

Hmm... I am thinking it is either a mutation or an armor enhancement.
The yellow glow every time Geralt strike is the "Euphoria" mutation (although in this case it's pretty useless since he/she doesn't use any potions or decoration) and as I said the shield is the alternate Quen mode.

Decoration? Are those liquours with cherries and umbrellas? :D
