Alexander

Alexander (2004)

by GSC Game World, Ubisoft Entertainment
Genres:Strategy, Real Time Strategy (RTS)
Themes:Historical, Warfare
Game modes:Single player, Multiplayer
Story:Alexander is an RTS based on the movie of the same same, and the real-life Alexander the Great. The game follows the same general path as the movie, and includes media straight from the film. Present in the game are Greek, Persian, Indian and Egyptian forces, with a campaign for each. The hybrid 2D/3D engine (2D units, 3D terrain - also used in Cossacks 2: Napoleonic Wars) allows for a very large number of troops on the field. This is used to good effect, as battles can easily contain hundreds of units. Finally, multiplayer and skirmish levels are available, and the soundtrack (of the game and the movie) is by the composer Vangelis.Show more

You need to return this classic because it brought me and my friends a lot of joy and happiness when I played it. I would like to buy it and have a licence copy to play with my friend and bring back the nostalgia. Thank you.

My best friend and i used to play this as children. I remember the campaign being absolutely fantastic, and having some surprisingly good voice acting. The different factions (Macedon, Persia, and India i think) had fun and noticable differences, and the game was intuitive to play. The ability to create formations of troops gave the game a much smoother feeling than the usual RTS at the time. While grouping units is not a unique attribute at all, it always just felt much smoother in Alexander than EE or AoE 2 personally. While i might still have a copy on a disk somewhere, i have no idea how to get something like this to work on a modern system. So being able to play it again from GOG and just remember the nostalgia makes this a must purchase if it was available.

Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter
Breath of Fire: Dragon QuarterBreath of Fire: Dragon Quarter is a radical departure from the previous titles of the Breath of Fire series, and in some ways from standard Japanese-style role-playing games in general. The game is built like a huge dungeon crawler, with no overworld map. The combat is tactical: each character has action points (AP), which can be used to move around the screen during an enemy encounter, and perform a variety of combo attacks. There is no magic in the game, and many of the items found in dungeons are random. All the enemies are visible on screen. Depending on who first initiated a physical contact, the party or the enemies get an extra turn in battles. The game allows (and even encourages) the player to restart it from the beginning, keeping the items and the party experience. The game also features a special counter - Ryu can use his traditional dragon transformation abilities, but the counter raises with each such transformation, and when the counter reaches 100, the game is over. Raising the D-ratio allows characters to access new areas every time the game is replayed.
