As an old-school gamer, I believe this game would have benefited from a one-linear tale rather than an open world like the 2018 edition. This was intended to be the final installment in the Norse Mythology series; why should we care what's going on in the other worlds, which we've already explored for hours in the semi-reboot? And the missions with Atreus were dull and disappointing. The game left us with more questions than answers.
Overall, this is the best God of War game in the series in my opinion. I'm thrilled for the new one, which will take place in Egypt.
I'm hoping, though, that Santa Monica Studios can recreate the original games' straightforward, one-linear storytelling style. Not every AAA game needs to be open world.
