AlexanderAlexander is an RTS based on the movie of the same same, and the real-life Alexander the Great. The game follows the same general path as the movie, and includes media straight from the film. Present in the game are Greek, Persian, Indian and Egyptian forces, with a campaign for each. The hybrid 2D/3D engine (2D units, 3D terrain - also used in Cossacks 2: Napoleonic Wars) allows for a very large number of troops on the field. This is used to good effect, as battles can easily contain hundreds of units. Finally, multiplayer and skirmish levels are available, and the soundtrack (of the game and the movie) is by the composer Vangelis.Historical Warfare
Dead or Alive Xtreme 2Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 is a sports spin-off game in the Dead or Alive series and the sequel to Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball. The title expands upon the activities available in the original, supplementing beach volleyball with additional beach-related minigames. DOAX2 features a two-week vacation mode, where the player can indulge in a variety of activities. Each day is broken up into three segments (morning, afternoon, and evening), where players can perform a single activity during each. The game puts a strong emphasis on friendship; players must befriend the other girls by buying them gifts they enjoy from the various stores on the island, playing pool-hopping and playing butt battles. Black and White follow the trends set up by previous games in the series. Two player characters (one male and one female) travel a new region, Unova, on their Pokémon journeys. The game draws heavily from both the plot and aesthetic elements of film noir, stylistic films made popular in the 1940s and 1950s that share similar visual styles and themes, including crime and moral ambiguity. The game uses a distinctive colour palette, but in homage to film noir it includes the option to play the game in black and white. Various plot elements reference the major themes of detective and mobster stories such as Key Largo, Chinatown, The Untouchables, The Black Dahlia, and L.A. Confidential.
L.A. Noire is notable for using Depth Analysis's newly developed technology MotionScan, whereby the actors portraying the game's characters were recorded by 32 surrounding cameras to capture facial expressions from every angle. The technology is central to the game's interrogation mechanic, as players must use the suspects' reactions to questioning to judge whether or not they are lying. L.A. Noire was the first video game to be shown at the Tribeca Film Festival. Upon release, the game received wide acclaim for its advances in storytelling and facial animation technology. As of February 2012, both PC and console versions had shipped nearly 5 million copies combined.
