I bet that they have chosen that way because the piracy. The 3ds, Wii and Wii U were completed cracked and "the scene is strong on those ones"...
But the recently announced crossplay between 3ds and Switch for Monster Hunter XX can hurt the switch if they don't clear the currently online on 3ds. Crossplay always sound great but the 3ds are full of cheaters.

Wishbone: Well, I looked into it, and it seems that it does actually support microphone input, in which case the "solution" they've come up with for voice chat is even more ridiculous.

The only feasible explanation I can imagine is that they are afraid that running a voice chat client on the thing itself will take so many resources that game performance will suffer.
Which would be a ridiculous idea, seeing as the Vita of all things had a proper party system.

I wager that a Switch Emulator would have a voice chat solution that is more elegant than anything Nintendo could manage.

My hypothesis about Nintendo: All departments except for games development is solely manned by monkeys. No, scratch that - monkeys can observe their neighbors and quickly pick up useful behaviors. The same can't be said for Nintendo.

Nintendo derailed a long time ago, so I am not surprised here. I have a collection of games and consoles of its golden era but they went full bananas over the years so the good thing is I have more money to spend on gog and other stuff ever since.

Problem with Nintendo is that they're so terrified of the internet that they do everything in their power to make internet a pain in the ass on their systems. Seriously, I can't believe they brought back friend codes!

Nintendo's not been the leader of the industry since the SNES and it's easy to see why. Rather than work toward retention, they're more than happy to let people slide out of the fold as soon as they realize how much better all the other options for playing games are. Even their ONLY blockbuster console post-cartridge, the Wii, was only successful for a couple years because non-gamers bought them for the fad appeal. I'm glad they have enough money in reserves to go for a few decades without falling, because they're going to need it if they keep being so insidiously tone-deaf.

They don't understand what made them successful in the 16-bit era (the 8-bit era, they were successful because they were in the right place at the right time), and they're far too insular to understand why people play on PlayStation and Xbox systems. They're not going to survive in this industry with the sheer levels of tunnel vision they have.

Well, Cemu itself is more elegant than the Wii-U itself.

Yeah, it's surprising how much money I feel I wasted on buying evergreen priced Nintendo games vs the massive savings on GOG I've had.
