Thanks for all the responses.
I learned a lot just reading them and have been surfing around checking out the various recommendations.
I think I need to be way more specific as not one of the games seems right for what I want to do. Now that I understand the lingo a bit better let me re-state my set of parameters where I am hoping there is a game (likely a compromise of the factors) that fits best for the application.
Think of my environment for game play as a bit of a lab environment and there could be some 10 year olds playing.
Most desirable traits in order of importance:
- It does not have to be a FPS. Any game that shows amazing graphic effects, that is multiplayer and meets conditions below is what I am after.
- no graphic sexual content
- violence is OK (all games seem to have violence) but let’s minimize the graphic representation of violence. Is there a good looking game out there where defeating an opponent is not about seeing graphics of body parts hit the ground? I mentioned Overwatch at I saw some game play and the graphics looked great and it did not seem to be that violent or provocative. I realize now (mostly from what I am learning reading) that it is not the right choice for my application.
- to be able to set up a LAN based multiplayer game. The main reason for using LAN over internet based is that the internet in my environment is very inconsistent at best…..yeah, I live in Canada, and many of the rural areas are just not well serviced. Once I get everything set, I don’t want the internet to be the reason we decide to go for Kayak adventure on the river instead of gaming.
- to be DRM free so that I can buy just the one copy and load it on a number of machines inside my LAN environment.
- graphics that will show the difference in effect between an entry level gaming rig and a state of the art one as this is something the users want to discuss and we have quite a few machines to play with and modify if we like.
Looking forward to more advice. You guys are very kind and knowledgeable and I am sure a consensus to solution will occur.
Frank
