Basically Paradox games. I love Civ games, MOO2, and Imperialism, but I never quite understand what is going on in Paradox games. All the grand strategy games look cool, but I am always at a loss once I start.

MightyPinecone: ...One of the missions I hate the most in all the GTA games is one taking place in the San Francisco city (whatever it was called) involving small remote controlled bomber airplanes. Merely thinking about that mission is enough to kill of any desire to play that game again. And I seem to recall that the flight school missions where pretty hard too.
>:-)
Yes, its officially the most globally hated (like in "hated") game mission worldwide.
Pretty much any Street Fighter or most fighting games in general.

I suck at these so much and have no patience to truly learn them.

Sabin_Stargem: The GTA games...when planes are involved. In my hands, those birds are going only one place: DOWN. Upside down.

heartburnron: Yeah avoided those too unless it was mission essential. Especially trying to land the helicopters!!
I actually had to quit the otherwise very enjoyable game. Not sure whether it was Vice City or San Andreas. There is one mission where you have to control RC mini helicopters into a building, up some stairways to place some bombs. Those terrible controls, I always failed... And at that time the GTA games had no checkpoints yet. That means, if you fail in a mission, you have to go / drive all the way back to the mission giver and then back to the actual locale of the mission. Easily 10 minutes can pass between two tries. That made me finally quit, unfortunately I had to. Since I love that open world game play with shooting and driving. Right now thoroughly enjoying Saints Row 3, 4 will be next. I love it, and there are checkpoints ;-)

heartburnron: Resident Evil HD Remaster - huge fan of Resident Evil 4-7 and Revelations but missed the original games. I so desperately wanted to experience the original. However, I'm a serial saver in games and given the format of only being able to save using the ribbons for the typewriter, that totally stressed me out. I want to know before I start a game that I can save and call an end to the session whenever I feel like it - knowing that I might be wasting a precious ribbon by quiting the game put me off loading the game up. Ultimately I gave up after around 10 hours of play.
Being able to save anytime would kill the tension in a Survival Horror game. Besides, the remake is somewhat generous with ink ribbons, so it's safe to assume you can save after any major event or progress. I think there are about 40 total ink ribbons in the entire game.
Love, man.

That game is ****** hard.

Fallout (1) and Majora's Mask.
I'm very thorough when playing games. I don't want to play them through a second time most of the time, so I try to do everything I can in a single playthrough, and I play cautiously. The time limits on these two really made me hate them.
You don't have to worry about the game ending after you find the water chip in Fallout 1. A big chunk of the game still remains, even if you've done everything else. It's in the form of two major objectives that do not have a time limits. Well, at least not any to worry about. There's something like an overall 15 year time limit or something from what I've read.
Dark Souls, I guess? Because it's too punishing for my taste. I like the atmosphere and exploration aspects, and I guess I could even live with starting over at the last bonfire when dying from regular opponents in the area, I get how it adds to the tension, keeping players on their toes, and you don't necessarily lose all your progress. But I was never really fond of bosses, and having to start over at the last bonfire whenever you die in a boss battle, and bonfires being placed far away from the boss arena, that's ruining all the fun I might possibly have had with the game otherwise. To a degree, I can understand the concept of the design, but I'm not the type of player to get something out of it.

I didn't realise there were so many ribbons - that's comforting. I'll need to man up and go back to the game. I get what you mean about the tension but I think they handled well in RE7 with having a rooms throughout the game that you could save in...
Big 4X games in vein of Europa Universalis and Hearts of Iron.

There's just way too many things to manage, too many menues and things to tweak.

I do OK in "lighter" 4X games like Master of Orion and Stars in Shadow.

In general I find 4X space games to be easier to manage than the history-based ones (WW2, Roman Empire etc.).

Platformers. I just don't have the reflexes for it anymore, I just become annoyed with myself.

Flight simulators like Microsoft Flight Simulator X and P3D. The learning curve is far too off-putting.

GreasyDogMeat: There's a quicksave mod for FarCry if that will help you. Loved that game back when it came out but it definitely could be frustrating in places with the spread out checkpoints.

Also agree about FTL. Well, kind of. MOST of the game I love but that friggin' final fight had me uninstall after around 20 tries at it.
I might try Far Cry again with that mod. Thanks. :)

heartburnron: STALKER - Shadow of Chernobyl - got all the way through it but can't get past the nuclear countdown at the end.
That nuclear countdown part was insanely hard. I had to reload many times before being able to beat it.

Want to play but cannot? Hmm, many RTS games I fail at partially so must skip skirmishes or the campaign or whatever is too hard for me but one game I have I get 'pwned' in EVERY single time whatever I try to do: American Conquest (yes, an RTS)
Real Time sTrategy games are beyond me
I suck at top-down shooters
I suck at platformers
I'm not very good at shooters

Not sure how much of all this is lack of practice. All my life I have played and loved rpgs. Time to think. A slower paced approach. Decisions more important than reflexes.

Anybody's guess whether I like rpgs because I am slow or whether I am slow because all I've ever played are rpgs.

Haha, same here when it comes to strategies.

I love how well made these games are, but if I don't get a pause function, I am gonna get crushed by the AI 8 out of 10 times. I just suck at them. But I still love 'em and will buy 'em if they interest me.
