Desmight: I played the s**t out of Mad Max, even though it had something like 70 on Metacritic, and loved every minute I spent in that game, I know how it feels like to enjoy something everyone else seems to hate :D
A game with 70 score median is hardly a disaster. I'd say it is a score for a game that has been made reasonably well, but isn't doing anything special to garner higher scores.
Also there was a lot of controversy around Hatred especially near release, and the way the devs describe it makes me think the decision to refuse the game was based on the controversy more than what they though of the quality of the game. Sure the devs are probably going to be biased in how they describe what went down and there is no evidence for it (as far as i know) but that's still the feeling i got so i'm making that assumption.

.Pur1st.: This is the single biggest opportunity GOG has ever had to seize a significant portion of Steam's user base.
They're not going to seize that opportunity. They don't have it in them. They were handed a golden opportunity a couple of years back when Steam refused to sell Hatred and the devs went "Screw it, we'll sell it on gog then!" And what happened? Gog refused to sell it as well, while Gaben himself welcomed Hatred back on Steam. So what could have been a good PR move for gog ended up making them look even more gutless than Steam.

They didn't stick their necks out for a try-hard-edgefest developed by their fellow countrymen, they sure as hell aren't going to stick their necks out for some trashy animu VNs.

.Pur1st.: With an uncertain future on Steam, erotic games publishers like MangaGamer and JAST are looking for a service that provides more stability. And GOG can provide just that service to them.

Impaler26: I doubt that. Both MangaGamer and JAST USA have their own stores and many of their games are not available at Steam.
People can just buy their "erotic" games directly from those stores:

And while I don't know about Mangagamer, at least JAST is DRM-free.

SirPrimalform: I genuinely laughed out loud when I got to the line "Enter GOG After Dark".

My god, that's got to be the sleaziest name I've ever heard.
Yeah, it's also sleeping on a golden opportunity in a time where I wouldn't let anything "golden" near my bed...

I'm sure Trump would be interested though.

Mangagamer is DRM-free as well.
Mangagamer is not shy: we invite any developers and partners who would like to sell on our platform to get in touch

Eh.

I can't tell if this is a farce or not, but either way it feels like it's a piss-take.
I'm not a puritan by ANY means but I do think games and movies like that should be kept to a separate space. Not upset at all that Steam is pushing them out, and they should rise to the capitalist occasion and make a new central hub for games of that type.

GOG will totally dive into into the smutty stuff when they've shown the most ridiculous handling of violent content due to regional laws already.

When they've plainly refused to introduce age verification.

And after it's clear that no one should verify age with GOG anyway because with THAT privacy policy, the less data they CAN give to their "Trusted Partners™", the better.

Mayhap GOG has not been sleeping on a lot of what they erroneously thought of as "golden opportunities", and that's why this one isn't one as well. :|

GOG is indeed sleeping on a golden opportunity.

By this point, it already passed. Sigh. I was thinking the same, that it would mean publicity never seen before.

Most games on MangaGamer and JAST USA are DRM-free. But there are a few games that have DRM on both stores so you have to check carefully before buying.

To say GOG missed an opportunity with Hatred is giving the game too much credit. In the end, after all the ruckus, it shows only 100-200 K of sales in SteamSpy. All said and done, GOG would have gotten probably only 1/10th of the sales in comparison to Steam, so I wouldn't really call that a missed opportunity.
