okay!
I don't usually follow the news when it comes to video game awards ceremonies, so I didn't know that an award for a game trailer actually even exists.

Once again, this continues to prove that the Game Awards are firmly out of touch.

What do you mean by that? Golden Joysticks are community awards, chosen in open voting.

it means "does not fit my personal taste"

For one, the year isn't over. For two, I really don't think Tears of the Kingdom nor Starfield were worthy of accolade; and one of the awards is literally a wishcast when it could turn into a complete gong show.

So? Since last November a full year has passed. The games of late 2022 were candidates in the 2023 award.

It's impossible to hold all award shows on New Year's Eve and only allow candidates released from January 1 to December 31. That would be very unfair towards all the candidates released shortly before the award.

I accepted this fate a long time ago. When I realized playing RTS, single-player was more fun to me than MP, and playing old Console games on physical hardware than emulation.

Edit: I guess that's more of preference

Oh, I've been out of touch ever since they made memes over that dead gorilla. They changed what it was.

Now what is "it" seems weird and scary.
The fact that they gave an award to the piece of crap Starfield proves that these awards have no credibility whatsoever and are totally invalid (which is typical for most other video game award events too).

Again - Golden Joystick is a reward that is voted on by players. so you are saying here is that people who play games have no crdibility wantsoever and their oppinions are invalid

Yes, without irony. These are the same people who will gladly leave their hard drives empty in anticipation of the next Nixonist propaganda game, be it Tom Clancy or Call of Duty Modern Warfare III: Modern Warfare III.

Starfield is not what I would call a good game. It lacks in accessibility, depth, and falls into exactly the same pitfalls that have plagued Bethesda games the last [checks watch] 20 or so years.

I'd guess Xbox Game of the Year implies an Xbox (console) exclusive, so there wasn't a lot to choose from as far as I know. Also as disappointed as I was with Starfield it seems to do well among a certain type of gamer, namely ones who like grinding resources to build ships and outposts.
