Funny. I've always regarded Asus as the epitome of cheap laptop manufacturers.

PS: Isn't or wasn't Lenovo an IBM subsidiary?

Heretic! :P Asus and Acer are the two Taiwanese giants that rule the hardware world.

Actually, they bought IBM's PC business a loooooooong time ago.

maxreese75: so you too wouldn't buy that lenovo? why?
I considered getting the very same Lenovo laptop model you've mentioned, but I've read multiple reviews complaining about the screen (bleeding, low contrast) and low structural quality of the build. In the end I bought a cheaper ASUS (GL553VE) laptop, which I'm quite content with.

Incidentally I had a chance to see a Legion Y520 laptop in a showroom and can confirm the overall build quality is rather shabby, but to be honest the screen looked decent to me.

maxreese75: Processor: Intel Core i7
Processor identification: - 7700HQ, Quad Core
RAM: 16 GB
Type of RAM: DDR4
HDD: 1000 GB
SSD: 128 GB
Graphic model: - GeForce GTX-1060
Memory Graphics Card (MB): 6000
Those are the important features for gaming (and performance overall).

My verdict: seems pretty good for 1050€. I especially like that it has both a SSD and HDD.

Interesting though the max RAM it can have is 16GB. I thought nowadays the max is normally 32GB, also on laptops. Oh well, that shouldn't be an issue for many many years, I believe, 16GB is quite enough.

As it happens, just today I upgraded my old ASUS gaming laptop RAM from 8GB to 16GB.
Yeah, it's a perfectly decent machine for gaming and for everything else too. I've got a PC that's pretty similar to this one, except it's an Asus ROG machine (read here and here).
