Oh, there's better reasons to call me a fool then that :D But I don't mock your precious Lone Wolf, nor anime and manga in general. I just can't stand them, there's a difference. I'm not saying they're all objectivly bad. I just hate them, like I hate the taste of spinach. It's a matter of taste, not something rational. Some people just can't get into comics. Some can't stand silent movies. For me it's anime and manga. Nothing personal, you guys have fun :D I just sometimes feel the need to poke you happy otaku with a stick, when all the japanese stuff gets on my nerves too much.

But Lone Wolf and Cub was made in a time BEFORE the "Otaku" culture really surfaced, it does not even have an Anime adaption.

Oh well, if you like slice of life-series, you could try to find [url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yokohama_Kaidashi_Kikō]Yokohama Kaidashi Kikō[/url] (ヨコハマ買い出し紀行) manga preferably because 2*2 OVAs just can't tell 14 volumes of stories.

Anime is cool. Especially stuff based on Type-Moon works like Unlimited Blade Works (the recent series not the shitty movie) and Kara no Kyoukai. Also the "monogatari" series (Bakemonogatari, Nisemonogatari) is also great. That said the majority of anime (as with the majority of anything) is samey low-budget crap.

If you like manga, read everything by Tsutomu Nihei, he is the master of Japanese cyberpunk. Amazing artist.

Open endings are primarily due to the fact that most anime are adapted from manga or light novels which is in most cases haven't ended yet, so they can't "end" the an anime series without completely going against the source material.

As for fanservice, how can you not like stuff like "guy accidentally falls and lands grabbing girls' boobs", classic.
