Now, that's a chap with a sense of proportion.

Unfortunately, some users dislike that. Weird that you got upvoted

Linko64: I have a 3080, I still use 1080p for most games, as I said earlier most don't run too well in 4K. We're still stepping away before 4k is the default.

Not everything is seen as 'less' quality is ignored. You should know this given your past post questions

anzial: One-dimensional thinking. Resolution is not the only thing that matters, there's also refresh rate. There are tons of high refresh rate monitors still being marketed with 1080p res.

Jon_Irenicus_PL: Yes but unless you are into competitive games like CSGO then 1440p is the way to go

1440p has 77% more PIXELS but 28% worse performance

So it's better

acute71: Still using max. 1080p on my 27inch monitors ;)

Jon_Irenicus_PL: No offence but 1080p on 27inches probably looks horrendous

That's why i got 27 inch 1440p instead of 32 inch. 32 inch looks crap because the pixels are more spread out.
Are you still running a RTX 2060?

Given that I have a RTX 3070 (desktop card); I am hitting the 8GB VRAM limit and I am not maxing-out Watch Dogs: Legion on every setting here (i.e. 4K High Res Texture Pack is off, Motion Blur is off) - if you are still running that 2060, you probably won't max it out either at even 1080p.

For me to max it out, which it won't allow me, it looks to be in the 9GB-10GB range of VRAM needed at even 1080p. WD:L is demanding as heck, like many Ubi games.

I'm running about 50-70fps at 1080p on WD: Legion w/ stuff mostly on Very High or Ultra; RTX maxed-out and DLSS On; and also via the NVidia Panel I'm also enhancing graphics & imaging as much as they can go with every AA setting (to stop any jaggies - b/c sometimes the hair looks funky w/ some jaggies on some of these NPC's, without the enhancing; looks much better w/ the enhancing).

So smaller pixels but poorly rendered?

Unless you are into competitive games like CSGO then, clearly, 2160p or higher is the way to go!

No offence, but 1440p on 27" probably looks horrendous.
That's why I got a 25" 1440p instead of 27". 27" looks crap because the pixels are more spread out.

See?

Only if both A and B are true.

A. You sit up close to it
B. Your can still see a fly way up on a mountain top from 10km away

(somewhat unrelated to the above now)

Let's talk again in 10 years or so... after you've worked a couple of weekends or have kids. Not that you have to do any of these things, but they certainly don't do wonders for your vision.

1080p is "retina display" for most of us retina deficient people (also known as non-teenagers).

I've seen that and it honestly looked terrible to me. Even 24 is borderline for 1080p when it comes to pixel density.

Talk for yourself, not for every non-teenager in existence.
I agree that "horrendous" is troll talk, but many many people see the low(ish) pixel density of 1080P/27" when sitting at a desk.

Fair enough. I did say you should not sit close to it at that size - if you have a laid back desk setup where the monitor is far back and you lean backwards it should not be *that* bad. There's also the option of getting a 1440p monitor and running it at 1080p because you can't see sh*t otherwise, in certain cases...

Was only joking about the non-teenager part, though eyesight certainly does not get any better with age.

People call you a troll because you act like one. Eg, a couple of months ago you were here suggesting everyone should "feel shame" for not owning an 8k monitor:-

https://www.gog.com/forum/general/when_did_you_move_to_8k_gaming/page1

You seem to be the only one who can't see how unbelievably childish these e-peen based threads of yours really are, constantly trying to make others feel "jealous" or "shame" over whatever new toy you just bought.

His posts are trolls for sure, but it's actually sorta nice to have random game topic threads that spur discussion around here outside of DRM and GOG policy discussions.
No. I won't be switching to 4K for some time. There are many others like me. Some folks can't even do 1080p.

So other then trolling this thread lets dissect op's post and give feedback so get ready Jon.

Jon_Irenicus_PL: Hey guys. I am getting a new 2560x1440p, 165 hz, 27 inch, 1 ms monitor. I am so excited for it.
Cool., I hope its serves you well, make sure to take breaks and give your eyes a rest once a while what brand are ya getting?
avatar
Jon_Irenicus_PL: Is it fair to say that at this point, 1080p gaming is basically dead?
No. not for at least another 5 to 10 years at most.
avatar
Jon_Irenicus_PL: I mean, i am way behind the curve, but even i am moving on from 1080p.
Only the super rich can be ahead of or at the curve, are you working a job that pays well? I hope you arent going into debt in order to keep up. Please be financially responsible and staying in 1080p isnt bad either, we all gotta live within our means, I aint going to bankrupt myself to go to 4k or 8k or whatever new money sucking HD standard is.

ok what kinda statement is this? are you saying that society's ills would be gone if everyone had a 4k HD monitor? cause that is what you are suggesting here, also not everyone can afford top of the line gaming hardware and I kinda dont by the latest and the greatest since well, modern gaming doesnt offer me much, the only new game I have been interested in at all was Doom Eternal, I was hyped for cyberpunk but it doesnt look all that good to me and then even looking past its buggy state.
avatar
Jon_Irenicus_PL: I don't mean to offend anyone that's still on 1080p but i consider that resolution pretty much dead.
"The road to hell is paved with good intentions" You may not have intended to offend but you did.

You seem to do either these really obvious or oblivious questions or these threads where basically go "I AM RICH AND I BUY SHIT AND I AM BETTER THEN YOU" which is honestly why you have a low rep, it has little to do the with the hivemind.

Yes. definitely. All the games in the GOG catalog that do not support nor run in 4K or 8K resolutions, are now completely obsolete games. Why would anyone play them anymore?

GOG should start selling exclusively 4K, 8K and 32K games.

A silly thread indeed...
