Is it just or is there a big lack of JRPG's and Japanese games on GOG? I'd really like to make GOG my only store, but it's hard when there's a lot to be desired when it comes to JRPG and Japanese game representation.

I know we have some really GREAT ones here from NISA and XSeed, but what about other titles from XSeed and NISA? For example:

Kandagawa Jet Girls
Senran Kagura Estival Versus
Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal
Senran Kagura Peach Beach Splash
Disgaea 1 - 5

These should be reasonable expectations for GOG, because XSeed and NISA are already here! So can we make these happen? I know we just got Akiba's Trip: Undead & Undressed, so hopefully we'll see some more. All of those are immediate day one buys for me.


Also, has there been any real attempt from GOG to get studios like Square Enix, Koei Tecmo, Bandai Namco and others to start releasing on GOG?

Is Square Enix for example just totally against GOG or something? Maybe I'm wrong, but lets say these titles came to GOG, wouldn't these titles do extremely well if they showed up? I know I'd pick them up (for another time in some cases).

None of these titles have Denuvo, and some have even had Denuvo removed. Isn't that right there kind of something that would suggest they might be open to releasing on GOG?


Let's take Koei Tecmo for example now. Is it like impossible or something to get titles like...

Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout
Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy
Nioh
Nioh 2

None of these titles have Denuvo. I bet the Atelier Ryza games would sell extremely well here.

What about Bandai Namco and something like...

Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition
Tales of Berseria (still has Denuvo for some reason)

Are these impossible gets?


GOG is an amazing service, and the best place to buy PC games, but there's areas that are lacking. So my main wish for GOG in 2021 is more JRPG / Japanese game acquisitions. We already got some really amazing ones coming soon this year with Trails of Cold Steel IV and Ys IX: Monstrum Nox (which will be day one buys for me), but I'd love to see those games I listed from XSeed and NISA show up, and also maybe one of those titles from Square Enix or Koei Tecmo.

I'd love to see most of these too. And the DQ games too. Good JRPGs are indeed in short supply here. There are some good ones, but it is indeed a dearth here.

They said in a recently posted interview (sorry, too much battery drain for me to look for it) that they had trouble getting American companies on board, until they opened up an office in the U.S. I'd like them to do the same in Japan. Maybe the entrenched DRM love isn't as bad as it seems. Maybe they can change some minds.

Hopefully poking GOG will help.

Having said that, I have little hope for any Squenix games though. And basiclly zero for Bamco.

I'd be down for Nioh, although I'd much rather have more turn-based old school jrpgs.
Or at least combat similar to FF 12 or Xenoblade Chronicles.

Maybe they just consider the potential customer base @ GOG to be too low for the effort put into updating/removing drm (wanting to helps)/supporting product?.

Having said that aren't japanese devs & publishers usually pro DRM? (maybe one of the reasons Sega seemingly refuses to bring games here) & in the past when i asked about drm free on kickstarter projects helmed by japanese devs, answers usually No or they give vague replies..

Honestly, I would be more interesting to see the SaGa remasters released here. I think there'd be some interesting discussion to be had in Romancing SaGa 2's release thread were it released here, especially if some WRPG grognards were to look at that game. (Note that, from my understanding, RS2 is *not* a good introduction to the series, but it might perhaps be a better entry point than Unlimited SaGa.)

I was bummed when Grandia was delisted from GOG before I got a chance to buy it.

Also, I would like more fighting games (most happen to be Japanese-developed) on GOG, even if the games are old and no longer have an active online player base.

GOG would probably love to have what you mentioned too. Unfortunately, besides DRM, the major issue for "AAA"/big-budget releases here is that GOG remains sooo much smaller than Steam, so many major "AAA" big-name publishers don't want to even bother releasing their games here. Best to just buy what you can here, vote on the wishlist, and contact developers and publishers and let them know you want their games here - nothing else you can really do I don't think.

Most of japan's publishers love their DRM except maybe a few of them such as Falcom and that's why we get day 1 releases here for some of their games (Legend of Heroes series and YS)
An example is SEGA....We recently got Shenmue 3 (publisher is deep silver) released here but they didn't bother to even bring Shenmue 1+2 even though the game always goes on a 75% discount

Well only if it is very limited , most of these games are the same anyway and flooding the store with them is pointless.
Just get the best ones and that should be enough. that too , those japan companies love their drms and consoles

Same here, GOG many good ones, but it NEEDS more JRPGs and Japanese games in general, these are always instabuy for me XD
Also, don't forget IDEA FACTORY/Compile Heart too. They have some games here, but it looks like they forgotten about GOG for some reason. The last games released by them were Neptunia VIIR and that otome VN, how was it called? Amnesia something, I can't remember the full name... :P
They have lots of other games I'd love to see released DRM-Free here like Fairy Fencer F, Omega Quintet, Death end re;Quest 1/2, lots of Neptunia spin offs...
But seeing how they are going too pro-Steam lately (releasing their english versions there 1/2 weeks before consoles) and not releasing anything on gog for over a year, I'm afraid it won't happen anytime soon... hope I'm wrong.
They surely would learn one or two things from Falcom...

I'll add Inti Creates on the want list, but they're also DRM lovers. I think that's why we didn't get Curse of the Moon here with Bloodstaind.
