The lack of JRPGs on GOG is probably caused by the same reason for the lack of games from every other genre on GOG too.

Namely, GOG's small size does not justify the 30% cut that they take.

So for a lot of devs & publishers, it's not worth releasing on GOG, especially since they have to pay their devs to remove DRM first, generally speaking.

In all cases, the solution would be for GOG to lower their cut to a percentage that corresponds to how (not) big they are and how (not many) sales they generate. Accordingly, GOG should reduce the cut they take to something like 10% in order to incentivize way more publishers & devs to like putting their games on GOG.

Orkhepaj: most of these games are the same anyway and flooding the store with them is pointless. Just get the best ones and that should be enough.
One could say the exact same thing about any games from any genre. By that logic, there's no point releasing any new games any more, as almost none of them are totally unique.

They don't take a 30% cut anymore, and they haven't since Early 2019, and maybe even at some point in 2018. I don't know what the revenue split is now, or if it's even the same for every studio.

And thanks for all the replies everyone. I guess all I can do is wait and see how 2021 goes, and continue to spend my money here on GOG, and not on places like Steam. Last game I bought on Steam was in April of 2020, and I intend to keep that streak going.

I've also contacted all of the publishers I mentioned in my post along with Capcom in the past month requesting that they sell more titles on GOG. I tried to make a case for why it would be beneficial for them the best I could. Probably nothing will happen from that, but what else can I do?

It's not like I'm unhappy with the game selection on GOG either. There's tons of great games here that I haven't even bought yet, and plenty more upcoming I've got wishlisted that will be day one purchases. It's just I'd just like to see a little more selection in certain areas. I mean, GOG always keeps me well fed, and my plate is always going to be full with great games, but it'd be kinda nice to see the menu expand a bit.

Don't know what the cut is exactly now. Could be different per studio or to negotiate title acquistions. Dunno, but the 30% seems to have been gone long ago.

Nothing definite about this, but I presume this is the source:

In the past, we were able to cover these extra costs from our cut and still turn a small profit. Unfortunately, this is not the case anymore. With an increasing share paid to developers, our cut gets smaller. However, we look at it, at the end of the day we are a store and need to make sure we sell games without a loss.

What do you mean? There's clear information here that whatever the revenue split was previous was reduced. Did you want details on exactly what the split is? It's very likely it could be different depending on who they're negotiating with. So I see no reason for them to even release the information.

all the other large stores have it publically, such as Epic's 12%-88% split, humbles 5%-95% split of net revenue and Steams tiered system based on revenue in $ (30/70, 25/75, 20/80)

It would be interesting to see where gOg stands here

Would be cool to see more obscure retro console games on here, like Ranger X or Bulk Slash.

darktjm: They said in a recently posted interview (sorry, too much battery drain for me to look for it) that they had trouble getting American companies on board, until they opened up an office in the U.S. I'd like them to do the same in Japan. ...
1-2 years "recent" or even older? I feel like I heard this 3+ years ago but maybe it hasn't been that long. Or maybe it's just been stated over the years in multiple interviews.

I agree about the Japan office, but GOG may not make enough money to justify it.
I used to love those top-down (or was it considered isometric) JRPGs from before 2000's. I think they were EGA, VGA graphics. Wish I could remember the names of at least some of them so I could make a GOG wishlist request out of them.

They had a lot in common with games the Ys series, though I don't think they had the bumper action in combat.

If games like that came to GOG, color me interested!

Actually, now that I think about it, the game Ara Fell might is also be a good representation of those games.

Ah, I wouldn't say recent but not too old.
