I boycotted Skyrim for quite some time, because Bethesda teamed up with Steam.

But now, afterwards, I had to reverse my opinion, because I felt that low fixed cost, widely available, enforced supply chain would more than anything help low capital game developers and publishers.

I might have to flip, again, if there is malicious vertical integration - or "Steam engine" that would be less open than Unity.

So there.

I cannot say I hate Skyrim.

But if Bethesda continues forth on the trajectory of Morrowind-Oblivion-Skyrim, I would say Morrowind is the title to take away with you unto a desert island.

Oblivion laced soul, Skyrim lacks also lore and PC gamer consideration.

I am not saying Morrowind was perfect, but even after I shall finish easy-going Skyrim, I shall stick with it.

Any PC gamer to tell me off? :-)
Morrowind is a wonderful game. I love how it's lack of fast-travel forces you to understand how the transportation in the world works. The only major negative for me is the dialogue system that doesn't highlight the unique interactions NPCs have. Too many redundant dialogue options.

It is, IMO, not so much the lack of fast-travel, but the chance of pimping up yer speed - and anything of your character - that makes Morrowind.

Whom has not jumped down from the Sayda Neen stilt rider rock on purpose, and healed themselves after, to improve acrobatics and restoration?
Morrowind, my introduction into The Elder Scrolls... And the only one i've played long enough to beat...

Probably doesn't help that in Oblivion they totally sucked the life out of enchanting stuff, and took away awesome spells like fly/jump (For some reason??).

Morrowind certainly has a few warts, but it has more love from me and probably many other people that Bethesda would probably want. The biggest problem i can think Morrowind has is the game world doesn't feel alive. People stand in place or walk to a nearby spot without actually seeming to do anything. (Of course Morrowind Comes Alive fixes that by having randomly spawned NPCS come and go as you go from place to place, so you'll sometimes run into the same NPC's who then feel like they are traveling around). Second would be the graphics, but there's plenty of mods and replacement meshes/texture packs to improve and upgrade the polygon count to nice levels. Third the scripting language although competent is sorta weak in some areas, usually when getting input from the player, not having text processing of any kind.

Lastly the directions are god awful in some cases. But only a handful of times have i had to resort to using the editor or a web page to figure out where to go. (And i think the extras include the player's guide so that's now on hand if you get stuck).
low rated
Morrowind is too streamlined. Daggerfall was a bit better, but I suppose as Morrowind was your first beth game, mine was Daggerfall. Nostalgia goggles. Although their newer games are shit. Too much streamlining for people who want to feel rewarded for following an arrow and left-clicking their mouse and not reading/listening dialogue. Most of those fags who play games nowadays won't survive 3 minutes in Wizardry or Ultima games.

MW was my first Elder Scroll as well & it is the one I'm playing at the moment. I never even heard of the franchise until my brother came over one day basically saying "You gotta try this game" and he handed me a MW GOTY to have along with a disc of "essential mods" hemade me so for me Morrowind is brotherly love.

Hmm for me I was working at Fred Meyers at the time... Had some neighbors we played D&D with, and they let me try out Morrowind on the Xbox. That was my first experience. Course afterwards I knew I was hooked, ended up getting the parts needed for a 1Ghz computer (with a whole 6Gigs of hard drive space!) and was able to install and play morrowind. Course the neighbors were surprised since the game ran smoothly on our computer vs the Xbox. Didn't realize til later I actually had it overclocked most of the time :P

Some of the best years of my life...
Daggerfall was my first - bought it a few months after it came out.

That said, I enjoyed Morrowind more.

I do recall wanting to get daggerfall to play and enjoy... Hmmm how strange, my memories include looking for a copy of daggerfall while i lived with my parents, but that was pre 2001, so the likelihood of the game being free is almost nil at that point. Still i liked the ideas of how to do enchanting and soul-stones.

Damn... i really need to find a full conversion game and play it, where the story and gameplay isn't related to TES too much so there's mystery and new stuff...
Elder Scrolls is one of those franchises where there's enough for me to just have one or two games.
Daggerfall and Morrowind would be my picks. Its the best of what Bethesda can do in my opinion.
Another thread fawning over Morrowind?
I'm all for it! :D
Everyone knows the faults with Morrowind, but despite all that, yes, I agree, it is probably the best of the series.
Let me check: well thought lore, mark and recall/super jump/levitation/telekinesis spells, open cities, no randomly generated dungeons. And those are just a few of the good things that Morrowind had. I still consider Morrowind the best and i played every ES out there (Battlespire and Redguard included).

I've known about DaggerXL for a while, but since it doesn't seem to be ready...

I also remember getting Arena and Daggerfall working in DosBox, but that was a long time ago... Including Albion and Daggerfall and, well that brings back the pre-2001 dates...
