Underwater wonders to wander on your own terms.

Aquaria, a metroidvania underwater adventure, is available now on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 50% launch discount.

We hardly think about it daily, but the mysteries of the deep sea right beneath our feet remain just as alien to us as the farthest reaches of our solar system. And where the unknown begins, our imagination starts to wander, and the world of Aquaria begin to fascinate.
Aquaria is a game about exploring both the deepest, darkest recesses of the sea and the sunlit expanses of underwater havens. Equal parts game and audio-visual experience, it's a critically acclaimed adventure that's out to challenge, delight you with a beautiful wide world to explore, and treat you with respect by letting you do so on your own terms. Aside from gamers' hearts, Aquaria stole the show during the prestigious 2007 Independent Games Festival where it was awarded first place for Excellence in Audio, Excellence in Visual Art, Design Innovation as well as the big grand prize as best of show. As one most acclaimed indie productions in recent years, there's no better place for Aquaria than a digital shelf on GOG.com.

Experience an underwater metroidvania with Aquaria, available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. You can take advantage of the 50% launch discount for the first week, until Tuesday, August 11, 12:59 PM GMT.
One of the best games I played in the last years and surely one of the best and most innovative Metroidvanias ever.
I already have finished it with most secrets for ages but highly recommend it.

MischiefMaker: How did THIS game get a higher release priority than Necrodancer?
I'm waiting for it, too. Maybe they're busy writing custom DRM-free alternatives to Steamworks. Look around the forum to see what sort of reception server-based features get.
Now this was a cool game! But I wish GOG could get the soundtrack for it!

I agree, but I suspect that the soundtrack is exclusive to Bandcamp (it's not even available on Steam).

Barry_Woodward: Far out, GOG! It is the dawning of the age of AQUARIA! :D
Paul Rudd and Seth Rogan's war against exercise stings the eyeballs. Lol!
I never got the hype about it. I played it, it was mostly swimming through empty areas with some occasional enemies that were easier to just ignore than engage. I quit out of boredom eventually. And don't tell me it gets good after X amount of time, why can't it be good now?

It is good now. Maybe it requires a certain mindset.

The first time I played Aquaria it was March 2008 and my first job out of university had just laid me off. Got home from my best friends house, was looking for something new to play but it had to be cheap... Long story short, went and bought some beer, got back to my apartment, bought Aquaria, the rest of the evening was spent in a trippy, aquatic, beer-infused haze that only losing one's job and being able to stay up all night can replicate.

OK, I'll bite. Y'know... like a fish?

Probably won't start playing it anytime soon, but I heard a lot about the game and I like the genre, so it seems worth the 5 bucks.

Sure took a while for it to arrive here on GOG. Perhaps this means we'lll see more Indie classics here?

This game was made back before XBLA made indie games mainstream and the tools that let indies create gorgeous games like it's nothing weren't available. At the time it was a tremendous technical achievement to make a game that looked and sounded this good. Nowadays everything looks good unless they're intentionally being retro.
Better late than never! :P
Great release. Pleased to see it here.
IIRC, this game was featured in the very first Humble Bundle, back in 2010.

fortune_p_dawg: It's like Super Metroid made a baby with Ecco the dolphin, and said baby was then read Lovecraft stories every night before bed. So it's Super Metroid underwater with some slight horror elements sprinkled throughout.
Sounds pretty damned good to me. :)

( Well, except for that part where Samus Aran has sex with a dolphin. I'm still trying to decide whether that's a good or bad mental picture. )

Hm, I remember trying to play this years ago, I got really frustrated with the controls/movement and how far apart the save rooms were.
